Yeah, was tempted by one, price was a bit high though, a certain companies website is incompatible with all but IE on windows and the 1024x768 res would annoy me as well. Same with desktop LCDs though, why oh why is it impossible to find a 19' LCD with a higher res than 1280x1024 even though higher reses are available on laptops.

Purely performance. I bought mine as a desktop replacement, not as a portable toy (that's what my Centrino work laptop is for biggrin.gif). I don't travel with it, so battery performance was way down on the list of priorities.

I make a lot of DVD's and am getting back into games, to the desktop processor makes a hell of a difference.

Yep, fair enough, suppose it makes sense if you're big into games.

Just bought his from Dell early last week for €2,100..

    Dell Inspiron 9300

    1.89 GHz Pentium M
    1GB of PC4200 RAM
    60GB 7,200 RPM Hard Drive
    Nvidia GeForce 6800GO 256MB
    8x DVD-RW +-
17 inch widescreen with native res of 1920x1200

I read recently that this is going to affect male fertility in the future(similar to how it used to be thought cycling would, I guess:roleyes:)

Supposedly your balls get crushed when you close your legs to rest the laptop on them, not only does this increase their temperature(balls[more likely the sperm] like to be a bit cold), you then place a warm lump of metal on them which increases the temperature to dangerous levels!!

I have an old wooden sketchboard thing that I use to save my balls, and it works a treat:D

    30gb hdd
    intel Xtreme graphics
    14" screen 1400x1050
    dvd/cdrw

Grand laptop. Really like it. Starting to play more games on it now and thinking of trading it in to get something with a graphics card rather than that piece of intel crap welded to the mobo.

Same as this.. beautiful machine.. plays farcry/doom3/hl2 etc perfectly.. With Omega drivers of course.. It does get kinda hot though.. I wouldnt be resting it on my lap in bed too often.. unless when doing some small bits and pieces... Twould nearly burn skin if playing games on it for a long time.. good to have something between the sheets and lappy imo.

Hmmm didn't know we had a laptop forum.

Here is the specs of my 16 month old Toshiba Satellite Pro A10

    Intel Celeron 2.5Ghz
    512MB Memory
    30Gb HDD
    DVD/CD-RW
    15" TFT

Only used really for the Internet and hardly ever gets used on the move (except for the odd work presentation).

One thing is the HDD, how simple is it to upgrade one for a lappy, done it loads of times on a desktop.

It shouldn't be very hard. There should be a panel on the bottom most likely with a screw in it. Take out the screw and you can open the panel to see the HDD. There's another one for RAM too. It should be a simple job of changing the old one for a new one. Peats sell the 2.5 inch floppy HDD's about 150 for a 60GB afink. You can even get a small HD case from Maplin round the corner to put the old hard drive into and use it as a small mobile HDD.

One thing to watch for thats caught a few people I know is some laptops have a tray that the disk loads in to and there may be an adapter that plugs in to the HD that extends the pins out further then you would norammly see them. Some gentle persuasion is needed to get it off.
