I didn't think so until now, bit looking at the symptoms, it could be me.
I did a quick websearch when you mentioned it to see what it is.

    Borderline
Borderline personality disorder is characterized by mood instability and poor self-image. People with this disorder are prone to constant mood swings and bouts of anger. Often, they will take their anger out on themselves, causing themselves injury. Suicidal threats and actions are not uncommon. They think in very black and white terms and often form intense, conflict-ridden relationships. They are quick to anger when their expectations are not met.

I probably fit into that category, but am moving away from it. http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=687102&postcount=57

Azezil posted an internet quiz here http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=71254&page=2&pp=20&highlight=borderline It is not a diagnonsis, it is merely indicative. One would need to do tests and interviews with a psychologist to be diagnosed. On checking my test results the psychologist told me she never saw anyone like me outside a mental hospital. WWM and TC would probably recognise me on the "black and white" thing.

Borderline personality disorder...Tbh, that sounds like a load of bull**** made up by some American trying to sell pharmaceuticals. Girl, Interrupted anyone?

Sorry, but I just don't think you can put a label on something so vague as "mood swings" and "poor self-image". That sounds like half the population of Ireland ffs. I'm moody, prone to angry (verbal) outbursts, impatient, I have intense relationships..but I don't have borderline anything. I'm as normal and as crazy as anyone else out there.

Somebody I knew was diagnosed with that a few years ago. It affected his life quite badly. I see your point Pet but it does depend on the severity of the symptoms. Being angry occasionally is ok, being angry all the time would be cause for concern

Fair play to my mate though, he had the courage to go to a doctor about it and after a mixture of medication(for a short while) and therapy he's a much happier guy. I do remember that he found acupuncture and other alternative medicine like diet changes helped him a lot. So maybe that's another avenue to explore Rialtoreality.

BTW. I just took the test and I come out low on everything and I'm about as well balanced as a 1 legged donkey. As Victor said if you want a proper diagnosis go to a professional.

thank you victor and page - i really find the black and white thing difficult. 2 days ago i was so dependent on someone to the point of worshipping them, then something tiny happened that most people wouldnt even notice, and it hurts so much that i never want to talk to the person again, and probably wont. this has happened before and probably will happen again, but it doesnt feel good losing friends because i get angry over nothing. thanks again guys

    Possibly.

That description has some of the symtoms, bus is not a diagnosis.

A man is in an acccident and wakes up in hospital. Panicking he says "Nurse, I can't feel my legs". Nurse: "Yes thats because your hands were chopped off in the accident". Just because one has symptoms associated with one condition doesn't mean one has that condition.

Now, lets discuss your agnger issues that has you flaming this poster .....

No, I wasn't flaming the poster, more the general idea of BPD. It just seems like it could easily be applied to almost anyone. If someone has anger issues (or whatever), then it's not a "condition" that they suffer from - they just have issues, that they need to sort out. I don't like seeing an umbrella term like BPD become a medicable "disease" like schizophrenia or depression. Throwing pills at this sort of stuff does no good in the long run.

I think it all depends on the severity of the symptoms. I agree with pet on the tendency nowadays of a pill for every ill and a medicalisation of some common human experiences.

Medication properly applied does help some people. The guy I mentioned earlier certainly saw an improvement from taking (mild) medication. The follow up therapy and other avenues explore completed the recovery. Now he's pill free.

rialtoreality, sad to read your last post. I wish you well on living with this. If it's any consolation that mate of mine I spoke of earlier is doing bloody well now. He has his bad days like the rest of us, but he has come out the other side of a similar place to you.

you will find plenty of people with it here
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=99

never heard of it until I watched Law and Order SVU at 10 on TV3 this eveing and then saw this thread...

Pet; what was posted was woefully inadequate as a description of BPD. It's much more complicated than that. The main point is that the sufferer compartmentalises their world, everything fits into certain brackets (or borders... :D) and anything that can't easily fit into a compartment is often met with hostility.

I dont think its that simple..... there is more and ppl can suffer for years before they reach that breaking point and get diag.... sef harm, suicide attempts, fear of being alone yet reflect everyone who comes to close .. etc .... oh and there is no cure no meds nothing .. so if you have it imagine having cancer you fight it every day but the doctors says whoops not enough research done for us to do any thing but we can offer you a bed if you try to kill ur self ... best of luck .. oh and you can pay my receptionist on the way out.

God moments like this i just love ireland . ..

Hah I came out with rediculously high scores in everything except borderline :p

I dont tend to get angry much. This is actually probably a problem of mine, anger is a necessary emotion, if its not being expressed then it must be doing something
