Yep Dell are fairly reliable, despite some horror stories. You could do worse

Pm me and I'll give you a good deal on a dell (shamelessly hunting for sales :D )

try harvey norman - sometimes a deal can be found there. Not a huge fan of the current dell laptops, v ugly and big. Try an acer,- check here or rockdirect. Both acer and rockdirect get good reviews and are mostly better value than most

Hardly Normal is a gangster. Was over at the sale yesterday and on most all their laptops they'd knocked money off - shame they added to the ticket price first. For instance a Toshiba model prior to xmas had a price of €1399. In the sale it ends up being ticketed at €1479 reduced to €1379  They did the same with a TV I had my eye on.

Your link to Acer is a gem; compared a few models to Dell's and Dell are waaay dearer even with the January sale, free RAM etc. In fact I couldn't even configure a Dell up to the specs of the Acer (no dual layer DVD) and the Acer worked out €280 cheaper Inc Del. Even their warranty is cheaper.

As far as I know, the "WAS" price has to be what it was for a period of 6 months or weeks or some period of time. I'm not too sure but I think i read it from a reliable source.

Sure it has but who's gonna go into a store and write down all the ticket prices? I only noticed the changes solely because I had my eye on 3 or 4 items on which they changed stuff. The Sony 32" WS pissed me off the most; thurs 23rd it was ticketed at €929. Mon 27th I went over to see if they'd knocked 50 quid off or something and saw that it was now "reduced" from €999 to €899. So the actual reduction is only 30 notes  I have no way of proving this and frankly I could care less but they did it on 2 laptops I was considering too.
They aren't the only place that does this (I've heard the same about Currys/PC world/Comet/Dixons) and I can understand fully that these stores operate on small enough margins as it is but it's still underhanded IMO.
