IMEI police??

I have a phone for sale in the buy & sell and someone text me about it askin all sorts but seemed interested but now they've asked me for the imei so as to check it with the IMEI police to see if it's stolen or not!

are they tellin porkies or does the IMEI police exist??

I never heard of them myself!!

well I'm not too happy about givin out the imei# anyways to a total stranger!

but does such an organisation exist?

Never heard of that either but dont the network provider have the authority.Because when i was on vodafone I couldnt ring people so i thought the phone was turned off.I rang vodafone and they fixed the problem.

Id just say hes a bit anxious and wants to find out if the phone isnt robbed.Im not saying it is and your trying to pull a fast one.Alot of peple are like that including me.

Just saw your newest thread and I would not I mean not give a stranger my imei he couldnt report the mobile stolen.Well if you have the receipt every thing should be alright :cool:

no well I have heard of pepole cloning phones off other imeis so alarm bells started ringin when he asked but I wasn't sure!

it's a serious enough phone so I'm not riskin anythin happenin it!!

I got it off ebay so I've no reciept!

(as far as I know)

phone companies record the imei numbers of the phones they sell (it's linked to the sim/number etc).

If you report your phone stolen, they immediatly block (well, upon request...) the phone which corresponds to that imei code from working on any Irish network (o2, met and voda all have a common database on this). I think it's linked to the UK aswell, so they won't work over there either.
