It's Ferrari versus the rest...

Nine of the F1 teams have come together and agreed to a drastic cost cutting package that severely curtails the amount of testing an F1 team can complete during the seaspn. Cleverly the nine have also linked this plan to a nineteen race calendar which would include the British and French GP.

Ferrari, with their massive resources and two privately owned test tracks naturally would resist any moves to limit testing. But the nine other teams combined might yet force their hand. If they can successfully spin the idea that there will be no British or French GP without Ferrari agreeing to the changes, the Scuderia will come under immense pressure from the media and the fans to agree to the new measures.

Interesting, even Suaber aka the Ferrari B team have signed up to the new proposals. Do you think this package is the solution to F1's problems? Can the others force Ferrari to come on board? How will it affect the sport?

Well id say it depends on what way they go about!......but i dont think it will help close the competition that much to be honest as the rich teams will still be a lot better!Im not surprised Ferrari are against it as they would the most testing to lose from it anyways!....But at the end of the day less testing would mean they wouldnt be able to get the cars so reliable and from what i remember the new Ferraris that have come out have generally been quite reliable out of the box bar a few teething problems!

The way i see it there are much easier ways to make f1 better and they are staring everyone in the face!

Well costs simply have to come down or else we're going to find ourselves with seven teams before very long. Luckily it appears Jordan are safe for another year and will be powered by customer Toyota V10s next year. This is the first time nine teams have been in agreement over such a radical measure to reduce costs... I think if they stick together and stand firm they might yet beat Ferrari.

However, even with the new rules, I wonder how successful they would be in their quest to beat Ferrari on the track. The Scuderia will find other ways to spend more than the rest...

Apparently Ferrari had not signed up when it went around because of some agreement with BridgeStone, however I don't know enough yet to make a comment.

while I agree with there being easier ways to make F1 a better sport are there better ways to ensure its survival ? By that I mean the teams can no longer sustain the level of development they have, to put 2 cars on a grid requires having over 1000 people working on development.
All you have to do is look at the figures behind the scenes. FIAT have lost millions in the last year, Renault are being put in the hands of Carlos Ghosn ( who is renowned for his cost-sutting measures and creating profits - just look at what he's done for Nissan since he became their chief exec. ) McLaren and Williams wont be able to sustain their development either... so if they dont agree these propsals we wont have any F1 races to watch.

I think actually the big teams have come out and said they can put another car on the grid!I know Ron Dennis has come out and said it!

That will never happen because it would be unfair on the smaller teams who are barely managing to field 2 CARS. if they were to add a 3rd you can be sure both Minardi and Jordan would leave F1 leaving it with less teams than before. Thereforw lossing the sport money through less fans and sponsership.

Also in the rules Ron Dennis was talking about only the fist 2 cars would score points so say Ferrari had a top 3. Only the first 2 would get points anyway.

therefore rendering the third car useless.
