i had a go at selling my mini pc on boards here a few months ago but failed.. so..
i'm thinking of somehow using it as a home entertainment system.

The advantages of this if i could get it set up perfectly would be that i could get rid of the dvd player, hi-fi system and sky satellite box (use Freeview instead).
And also play my films and mp3s with use of the surround sound system downstairs.

I don't know much about Freeview cards. Are they much use in Ireland? Quality of picture?

Also, what kind of a soundcard could i use to connect to my surround sound speakers?

I don't know much about it so i'm looking for some advice.

I was look into this recently to. There is no digital freeview in Ireland so a digital freeview card would be pointless.

What connections do you have on your speaker?

You could keep your sky box and route it through the PC so you could record it.

There is info on this page http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/mce/configure/default.mspx relating to setting up your PC as an Entertainment system.

It deals mainly with WinXP Media centre Edition, but quite a lot of it is hardware related and how to configure it.
