Pining for a cat and dealing with depression

To start with, this really much more of a rant than a question, so no need to reply if you don't feel like it.
I moved out of a house about a month ago (due to the fact that there was a girl whom I had lived with for far too long, and we couldn't stop the agruments) and I had to leave my cat, Shadow, behind. Long story cut short, I left her there with the other girl, knowing that it'd be best for her.
The girl went away for the weekend, and the guy (a close friend) who lives there too said I could call around and see the cats.
I entered the room and the 2 other cats ran up to greet me, but Shadow was terrified. After a while, she seemed to remember who I was.
When I left, all I could think about was all the cute things that she used to do. I got home and I cried.
I wish I could take her with me, but I can't. My entire family hates cats and I couldn't possibly ask anyone to look after her, but I miss her so much...

/me breaks down and cries.

does your family know how much you miss your cat? Surely if they knew how much shadow means to you they'd put up with him/her for a while, until you found a new place to stay or whatever. I'd put up with any pet my sister brought into the family home regardless of how much i disliked it if i knew that seperating her from her pet reduced her to tears. Talk to your family about it and i'm sure you can work something out.

I can only see Shadow again when the girl leaves for a few days, because we're still not talking, and I'm still pretty upset over being called a liar and a thief. For 2 months.
And my family would *never* agree to letting me bring a cat home, they all hate cats because they're all allergic to them. I was too, but I got over mine by actually living with a cat. 4 hours is all it took, it was pretty amazing! It doesn't matter anyways, my family think I'm mad for caring so much about a "stupid cat".

I'm really feeling for you....is there is no one else who can look after the cat for you to ensure better access? My cat died 5yrs ago and i still miss her....

awwww ***HUG*** this is terrible - i'd be lost without my kitty-cat!! The thing is my parents weren't into cats at all but me and my bro got our little guy anyways..Anyhoos my parents LOVE him now! Would your family not adjust to the cat if you brought her home - the cat'll prob be scared of them for a few days so it'll give everyone a change to get used to each other?

Yep Cat person here too. I like cats as I like my women intelligent with a mind of their own.

Hang in there at least you know because Shadow is a cat she is able to fend for herself. If it was a dog it would be long gone now.

Just remember life has troughs so you can appreciate the peaks

I'll be living at home until I come back from Vancouver, so mostly likely the end of April. I have a huge loan to pay off, so I definitely can't afford to move out again. I wish I could show you all a picture of Shadow (although, whoever was in the White Horse last night would have seen some pics on my phone) but someone in work deleted my folders. :mad: but it's ok, I have copies on my pc at home. Another time maybe.
Trying hard not to randomly burst into tears.

I feel the need to point out that changing a cat's environment in any way is very traumatic (for the cat) in my experience. Shadow probably missed you terribly but will eventually purr again for the giver of Whiskas.

Moving Shadow elsewhere may not be a good idea, unless its quite nearby.

Cats are very territorial and moving them from where they grew-up is a real upheaval for them.

Moving her far away should only be considered if you think she's being neglected in any way.

I know how you must feel. My cat's been dead 12 years and I still think about her...

That's true, she had moved only once before, and it took her well over 2 months to finally settle into the new place. You know what, it's ok, it's best if she stays with the ex-flatmate. And you're right elivsvonchiaing, she ran away for 2 days (her first time ever) when I moved out, but she ended up returning, so it really is best if she stays where she is.

As inconvenient as he was, I was reluctant to part with my affectionate pet rabbit. He would run around my feet in circles (as well as chew up the wiring and wallpaper.) My fiancée said I wouldn't need affection from him because we'd be together again soon. She was in America where she's from. Then she decided it was all too heavy and broke it off. No way my rabbit would have done that. Sorry rabbit.
(I gave him to a good home btw).

Awh man, sorry to hear about your rabbit, but in all fairness, I could never, *ever* ask anyone to give up their pet, especially if they loved it as much as you loved your rabbit, but I'm glad he got a good home.

awww i know how ya feel, ok so i showed you a pic of my new kitty in the white horse the other night but i had another before cornelius, her name was mollie i miss her terribly, she had to be put down coz some cruel minded person kicked her really hard in the head and gave her severe brain damage, i was so annoyed coz i was in dublin the night it happened so no one told me until the next day so when i came home i'd no cat to greet me

was so pissed off. ok i know not everyone likes cats, but to do something like that was horrible.

Thats horrible how could anyone do that to an animal, the person should be kicked in the head see how they like it.:mad:

*I'd never be able to just leave my cats.... id just bring them home and wouldnt give a **** what the family say.....but luckily enough my family love cats!!

Would the emotion toward the cat be a build up of other things in your life atm (re some of your other posts)? It seems you are over attached to the cat, but if your life was absolutly amazing would you care that much about her?

Or maybe its just "girl, really likes her cat". Anyways, pets are quite difficult to manage in a situation like this. You really care for her, but your family doesn't see it like that. You should think it lucky that your friend doesn't treat the cat like ****. Then you'd be really stuck if you couldn't bring her home.

Hope you sort it out.

True, it could be a possible build of emotion, but I just feel like a parent to the cat. Watching her grow and all that.
Oh, good news, the male housemate says I can call over more often, he just reminded me it's his house too lol
