bilinear vs trilinear

Hey all, I've being playing call of duty and had a look at the graphics option. I know this is probably a stupid question but what is the difference here. Is trilinear better and if so why. I have a Radeon ATI 9800 pro. Should I use the trilinear option?

I always use's the trilinear option as i think its ment to be better "but i stand to be corrected". Dont know what it does but i just have it sollected.
