early eddie murphy was good - delirous I think the video was called. The ice cream sketch was a laugh.

Some of the us sitcoms were ok. Fresh Prince of Bellend could be quite amusing.

Hate richard prior. Cant think of anyone else off hand, but there must be surely?

Doesn't bother me that much. Can't see much of a difference. Have watched some comedy stuff on Paramount before. Saw one Eddie Murphy's shows before, it was quite good. Although, one of my favourite comedians is ... god damn it i can't even remember his name, the scottish guy with the goatie
There is one difference between black and white comedians. Black comedians will some times make racial jokes about black and white people, nothing too offensive at times. But if a white person made the same jokes it could be taken in a different context and deemed racist.

    Chris Rock is hillarious :)
Number 2 on my all time faverite comedians list.

I think comedians make fun of stuff that effects them in real life ... Irish comedians generally make fun of the Irish way .. or if a comedian is in a different country doing a gig they generally make remarks about the country they are in ...
maybe these things effect them in every day to day life and they are just taken the funny side of it. Serious matters made light so to speak. People find things funny that relate to them.

    'It's funny cause it's true!'

I remember going to see Lenny Henry live.

I also seem to remember him being funny, but I was young then...

Has anyone seen the advertisements for the Def Comedy Jam DVD's on T.V?
Terrible ad it is! No jokes just them making bad "comedy" noises and the less said of the voiceover the better....

Jack Dee now theres ya man!

Black american sitcom has been done to death. There's alot more fresh and thought provoking comedy out there nowadays.

    1985:

    "Man, I'm SooOOOO Black!"

    2005:

    "Man, I'm SooOOOO Gay!"

    Nor is he black anymore!

I've seen very few popular black stand-up comedians that I liked, but the popular ones all seem to use a similar theme:

<Chris Rock> Black blackity black, nigga nigga, etc

If Billy Connolly can make a career out of comedy without any 'white' jokes, why is it so rare to see black comedians not telling black jokes?

I reckon british black comedy is much better - remember The Real McCoy? I nearly choked from laughing so hard at that once. Lenny Henry was funny in his day as well imo.

Richard Pryor's shtick about being black was pretty funny.

    "Ah coulda been prejudiced!"

He was funniest back when he was coked out of his nut though.

I don't suppose any of these mates were black then. How many black people have you met in your entire life? Have you ever spoken to one? You are not laughing at a black persons jokes for the same reason many people of this world don't find da unbelievables funny - it just don't relate.

You want funny black cinema? Watch Barbershop and then checkout Friday.

Now, if its easier for you, try and pretend that all the faces in the movie are white just like you - you will be surprised how funny it is!

(By the way, where I can I pick up a televiewer?)

I was going to post something similar. Ever hear Chris Rock going on about ****? Along the lines of : "Black people can't do a damn thing without ignorant ass **** messing it up!" His completly black audience were rolling in the isles and I found it fairly funny myself, but a lot of white people didn't get it and were really offended.

You always hear that british comedy doesn't travel. How many Americans do you think would watch Have I Got News For You or They Think It's All Over? They just don't 'get' a lot o british comedy.

There's a guy called Patrick Healy - he's a huge black American guy - who's hilarious. He tours the UK a lot and you might catch him in Ireland if you're lucky.

the funny thing though is that it would be PC white liberals deeming those jokes racist and not any black comedian
