    WTF?????
    just cancelled my credit card and the person on the phone said i'll be charged an extra 40 euro!!!!!
    those ramming sons of bitches!!!!!
    how can it be legal!!! is it like buying out a contract or something???

    I got it for holidays last year, put my own money on it so not to use theirs then said i d cancel it when i got home 400 euros later payin it off enough to buy stuff on the net! got a cash sum so said i d get rid of it !!!

    The government tax is 40 euros.

    This is what the charge is. You have to pay it.

    Hey Manticore,

    Although it's bad getting charged the 40 Euro, you're lucky you've cancelled now. If you waited till Thursday you would have got hit with another 40E - the charge they would have applied on 1st April 2005!

    The charges are retrospective, i.e. what we're going to get hit with in the next few days is the charge for the privilege of using our credit cards from April 2003 to 2004. If you cancel it at any stage you're hit with the full amount.
    It's solely the government stamp duty of €40, nothing else.
    I checked all this with the stamp duty office as the explanation of "you just have to pay it" that TSB gave me just wasn't good enough :)
