OAP's delivering mail

Did anyone read that in the Irish Times on Saturday. The chairman of the SFA was interviewed saying how difficult the postal problems are making life for small business (which it is of course) and that some of it's members were being creative and one is getting OAP's with their free travel to deliver important mail. Read more in the Tribune today and it seems like legal firms are doing it.

Now, is it just me or is there something a bit distateful in this. Yes, presumably the OAP's involved would be willing participants but who on earth would even think of doing this.

I run my own business and right now if I have something important I need delivered I get off my arse and deliver it.

Somehow, I shouldn't have been surprised with it being the legal profession thinking of this.

Doesn't the legal profession have its own sekrit post between firms anyway with guaranteed next day delivery?

I've a mate working as a solicitor up the wesht - he calls it Potter's Owl Post.

I think it's a great idea, maybe we can get the OAPs to collect the bins as well.;)

Thanks for the replies folks although none of you have given an opinion on what I originally posted.

I'd presume that the OAP's would have to be checked out mentally before they start their delivery job yes? I mean the last thing I'd want is an old fart with alzheimers delivering my important post.

But to someway reply to the original poster, yes if I have something to deliver and the destination is close(ish) I'll do it myself. If small businesses are having problems with the industrial action, theres always DHL or how many other hundred couriers in the country? The OAP's may be perfectly happy to deliver the post and supplement their pension a bit but it seems like the crafty businessmen are just taking advantage of the old dears... which I suppose they are really.

As long as they're being properly paid for it, I can't see the harm...

They're probably being paid in old money ............................ 12 shillings 2 pence an hour. (a fortune if you're working in centra)
