So what's in your 'Subbed' forum list?

This isn't intended to be just a spammy "list out your subbed forums list". I would just like to find out which boards are particularly entertaining or informative - or at least entertaining or informative enough to warrant someone to actually subscribe to that particular board.

At the moment I have subscribed to 12 boards, which I check pretty regularly. There are perhaps a furthur 10 that I would visit on a regular-ish basis. I check the others once every blue moon or so.

    Subbed forums (In alpabetical order):

    After Hours:
Yes, this board. Full of inane ramblings just like this one, but you occasionally stumble onto some comedy goldmines.

    Feedback/Suggestions:
All the "FIGHT TEH POWAH!" style postings are here. Typical threads include "Why was I banned from X?" and "Forum suggestion: Obscure hobby #32". This board is also the soap opera of boards, the clashing personalities alone make it worth reading.

    For Sale General:
Yes, I am a for sale junkie. I think I've only bought one item from someone from boards in all my time here, but it's still nice to check up on what people are selling, and what the expected asking price is. It's always amusing when someone posts up something with a guideline price of ~€100 and gets offers of €5.

    Humanities:
This, after politics is the 'serious' discussion board. The controversial issues of the day are thrashed out here. Such issues as abortion, prostitution, divorce, racism etc crop up time and again. Moderated stongly by amp & co. ltd.

    Humour:
It's in my subbed list, but I hardly ever check it anymore. All the stuff that's doing the rounds in emails at the moment turns up here. Again, it occasionally has some class threads, but these are becoming increasingly few and far between

    IrelandOffline:
Find out why you should hate Eircom here. The nitty gritty of the state of the telecommunications industry of Ireland is discussed.

    Lan Parties:
I lan. Roll on the next Darkside.

    Lesbian Gay Bisexual:
How queer! What's this one doing here?

    Personal Issues:
Full of teenage angst. In other words, comedy goldmine. Such classic threads include "How do I know if she likes me?" and "Medical Problem: HELP!" as if we are all qualified doctors here.

    Politics:
If you have an argumentative temperment, stay away. If you do drag yourself over you'll find one of the busiest forums on boards. Politics is essentially a philosophy on how one should govern lives. I find it fascinating.

    Technology:
I just use this to keep abreast of more recent technological developments. Threads usually fit into either "Recommend me <Hardware component>" or "<Hardware component> failed". The former threads usually contain interesting information on emerging technologies.

    The Illuminati:
A private board. I could tell you more, but then I would have to kill you all.

Using the mouse, hover over your subbed list.

On you keyboard, hit the "Print Screen" button (may be "Prnt Scrn" or similar).

Run mspaint or other graphics program.

    Paste

    Trim to size

    Save

    Attach

put cursur over subbed tab at top, press 'print screen', open microsoft paint, edit - paste, drag a box around the subbed forums list, right click, cut, file - new, edit - paste, drag the bottom right corner of the image till it fits nicely around the subbed forums list, then save as jpeg, upload to file manager, right click on the file, copy shortcut, reply to this thread, hit the image button, right click - paste, hit ok, et voila

    not complicated at all

Why would you add forums like AH, Humour, PI to your subbed list?
They get so many posts that they'll always have new posts and that little * beside them. Why not just use the normal drop down menus.
I just have some of the smaller forums I'm interested in subbed, especially ones that are a bit hidden away, like file sharing, just so I can easily see if there's been any new posts since I last logged in.

How do you add forums to your subbed forum list?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,034 ✭✭✭✭Giblet

Open the forum you want to add, and then click the Subscribe to this Forum link under the new thread icon on the top right.

I dont use subs, instead I scroll through pages of threads here-

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/search.php?s=&action=showresults&searchid=349216&sortby=&sortorder=&pagenumber=1

and see what catches my eye.

Then I close in on the usual suspects - Motors, Soccer, Politics, IOFFL and a few others.

    Mike.

    For subscribeaholics, I'm developing http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/subbed.php
Not pretty now, but merges subscribed threads not from your subscribed forums along with threads from your subscribed forums. Will have options such as "show all since I last visited" or "all in last 2 days" or "last 50 threads" etc.

And now you get a little star beside each forum that has a new post in it!
