IF (and thats a big if) we could probably get it started would anyone be interested in an animesoc. I think this could be fun if it could be started.

This is just an idea that popped into my head a minute ago, so i don't have any plans on how to procede. But if there is enough interest in this and somebody can help show me how to get it started (and if somebosy would allow me to borrow some of there anime cause i only have about 20 dvds) then i might try and aim for getting one started for nest year.

So this is just to see if anybodys interested?

I really dont think he's talking about Yu-Gi-Oh (on the off chance that you are, I want no part in this evil idea)

If its anime, as I know anime, then I'd be pretty interested.

Why you'd want to borrow dvd's I dont know. You wouldnt be allowed to show them in the college in a public gathering as that would be totally illegal. In fact I cant think of any way that an animesoc could be legal.

Please feel free to demonstrate how :eek:

If it is illegal then it might not be such a good idea. Not unless i can get permission from the distributers. Which i might try and do if theres any interest. I probably should have thought this out a bit more.

And there will be NO YU-GI-OH. Next thing you know you'll be asking for pokemon.*shiver*. If i did get permission then i would be try showing classic anime programs, Evangelion or something like that, as well as a few movies. It would just be an excuse to chill out.

Do, look into it. It may not be too difficult to acquire a licence for many of the good anime because they allow them to be distributed outside of Japan illegally (dont they?) in which case they may have very lax licencing agreements.

Also, is there a forum for it on boards?

I have Ninja Scroll and Golgo 13, and i think i can get my hands on shadow skill.

I do plan on looking to this subject cause i think that it would be good. If i could get the licencing and then get the college to allow me to use one of the lecture theaters (A101 maybe) then i think we'll be all set.

But you have to bring your own popcorn.:D . I'm to much of a scaby bastard.

I haven't seen the pokemon at it lately but you never know!!

What i might do is send emails to some of the different distributers (Manga Entertainment or ADV Films) and ask for details on how to aquire a license. And i'll drop into the stutent Union to see if they can give any advise on what to do. And also visit the person who's in charge with all the clubs, Fr whats his name???
So i guess that i have some work to do?

And would we be allowed show them in the college.

If i get the time i'll go into the student union today and see what i can do then i'll let you know.

and when you do that.. I'll know who you are

unlicensed fansubs... dl them? get em on HKDVD?

they let us show cartoons and movies in compsoc, so maybe this will work out... if they understand there will be no cartoon sex.. until I get my package next week.

OK so for anybodys that interested, i talked to the chaplin today and he said that it would be no problem to set up animesoc (i'll have to work on the name). He said that it would be alright as long as i don't charge people to enter, which is what the film club did and shut down for it.

The only thing i'll really have to do is talk to computer services about using the one of the lecture halls. If theres enough interset i'll see about booking the large lecture hall, although i dout there will be that much interest.

So for now just let me know if you are actually interested?

OK. I don't know how successful you'd be with getting one of the new lecture halls (the ones by the LRC), but the cinema room in the C building, where the cinema club was once held, may be a nice option for a number of reason's.

* The new lecture halls are usually used for visiting lectures.
* The old hall isn't used much.
* Don't know if they'll like you messing with the new lecture halls (tho one of the cinema clubs used one of them)

Also, find out from someone who ran the old cinema club about which one the techies don't find you f*cking with. Some of them should be still around, and if you can't track them down, ask the priest, saying you want to get info off them.

THanks for the tips. I'll go and cheack out the old cinema room in the C building when i get a chance and i still have to ask the techies about using it (i'm busy... REALLY, i have a project to hand in today and i oly have three pages done, so to prove that i'm going to work at it im not going to COMPSOC this week:eek: )(Well i might drop in for an hour;) )
