First off I'm a big fan of all previous incarnations of ST (tos tng ds9 voy) and I've TRIED to like this show but truth be told it's just AWFUL television (not just by ST standard but by 'E4s The Salon' standards).

I watched the first few eps of it when it premiered back in 2002 and was so unimpressed that I stopped watching for a whole 2 years. About a month ago (on the reccomendation of a friend who said Enterprise had improved dramatically in Season 2+3) I started watching again but it just seems to be just as bad as ever. I'm going to watch ep2.22 today and ep3.9 tommorow and if they aren't SERIOUSLY impressive (which I doubt they will be) then I'm going to be giving it the boot once again.

Question : is this show even 'official' Star Trek anyway? Seeing as it isn't called 'Star Trek : Enterprise' I'm guessing/hoping not. Anyone know the official line? If not cannon then I wouldn't care if it gets canceled.

The problem with Star Trek is that there is only so many stories to tell, and basically Star Trek has told them all several times over in the last few years.

Changing or firing people, setting it either in the past or the future, different casts etc etc, isnt going to make a blind bit of difference.

Its down to the writers to come up with 7 seasons of stories and its very very hard to come up with new stories when youve got well over a 1000 hours of backstory to contend with.

If you all really think about a new story you wont come up with it I guarantee that, itll just be a variation on something thats already been done.

The only Star trek show ive seen and ive been a fan for a very long time that had any inkling of originality was DS9

face it modern trek is dead nuthin we can do, we need to wait another decade before Trek seems fresh again

    TNG 178eps
    DS9 176eps

    Animated 22(?)eps
    Films 10

How did you get 1000hrs+?

I agree with you tho. Trek needs to take a long break from our TV screens before it starts getting 'simpsons-itus' and ends up ruining its own legacy.

Is 3.5 million not enough to keep it going.

also why dont those basterd not consider european ratings for shows. They canceled space above and beyond and dark angel - both had good ratings here!

b*stards. But it would be a good thing if Enterprise was cancelled. I watched the first two seasons of Enterprise religiously despite hating because I don't like to say I hate something without having given it a thorough chance. (Don't want to be one of those muppets who responds with "it's ****, I dunno it's just ****). Now, a few episodes into the 3rd season I just can't do it anymore, no more, everyone tells me it's picked up big time but I just can't get myself to tune in.

I recently watched TNG season 1 again and to be honest the stories are quite corney and silly. Season one Enterprise was poor other than the first episode and the occasional fluke. Seasons 2 & 3 have been quite good, especially the whole Xindi arc.

I know quite a few Enterprise fans that really hate the other trek series, my point is that Enterprise has its own fans. Enterprise has also kept quite a few old Star trek fans, like my self for example.

It would be a shame if Enterprise was cancelled because there would not be another series for years and years, if ever. I'm talking about the time between TOS and TNG here people :dunno:

    *Gets up off floor*
    What the hell?
*User recovers from his breakdown over the thought of waiting that long for another star trek show*

I hope we dont have to wait that long but if enterprise fails noone might want to risk wasting money on another show.
If we do have to get another show i would love a show based in the mirror univerce.

They should make a movie out of William Shatner's "The Return"

Lots of fights, Renegade Romulan-Born Alliance, and of course my favourite; the USS Monitor!!!! beating the pants off the Enterprise - E.

Though it would be nice to see an Enterprise - F in Multi vector assault mode (lasted 5 minutes in the ST:DS9 - Millenium series in the defence of Earth)

OMG a movie out if the return avanger specture dark victor preserver (all 1 long book) would be the greatest trilligy ever.

 books are non cannon rubbish that should never make it on screen

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,560 ✭✭✭Woden

says the guy who has never read star trek books. some of the star trek books are very good and well written imo. a number of authors spring to mind some of the more notable ones are peter david, michael jan friedman, john vornholt would be more old skool star trek authors writing at least since the days of the early TNG books.

peter david's new frontier series i recommend to all fans.

    data

    yet again i will repeat

Book are NON cannon rubbish that should never be seen on screen

They are fine as books but not as cannon tv

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,560 ✭✭✭Woden

yes but rubbish is a harsh word to describe them. non cannon is sufficient imo. just because something is non-cannon it should not be described as rubbish, people are quite happy to discuss the blueprints, tech manuals, star charts and fact files and quote them as fact i believe it irrelevant that beccause info stuff has not been explicitly stated on a show and consider it through until an episode completely contradicts it.

whether shatners trilogy would make the greatest trilogy ever i have my doubts i'm sure there are better books then that out there.

    data

i find it hard for you to judge shatner as a good writer considering 60% of the books you read are by him :)

not only that but i think he typically writes his books with other authors also, names i can't think of staright off though i think its something like judith reevfield or something does that ring a bell?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,905 ✭✭✭User45701

ye he does them with other people.

i think the reason we find the shatner books better then the normal star trek books is they usually have a more epic theme. some star trek books the paper backs and what not can just be based on a really small event on a planet or what not. shatners books are always about saving the whole federation and stuff which is quite good typically

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,905 ✭✭✭User45701

I love shatner writing about the mirror univerce and the history of the terran empire and his counter part

Emperor Tiberus - Master of Life and Death throught the known galaxy, (what a title that will be my title someday when i rule the earth.

i said it in another thread a little while ago, but a couple of times voyager touched on a potential future series. a couple of things that spring to mind are the time ship episodes for one. how about that? bouncing around through time fixing stuff, and watching events as they unfold? with the SFX around today they could even splice old kirk episodes into new footage without it looking too dodgy, and there is an almost unlimited amount of material which could be used to play things out.

another good one would be the one with the holo doc on the multi-vector attack thingy ship with that geeky other holo doc when he was beamed across to the alpha quadrant. looked like a pretty cools ship, so whats wrong with taking that up?

i'm falling asleep travelling around the place at warp 5, its fecking boring. that said, it's getting a bit better with this delphic expanse thing and the threat to earth, but they really are stuck with what they can do apart from stretching whats already been done (quite often beyond the 'trek' reasonable) because it really has all been done before from our perspective. you know damn well they have their writing team watching old ep's of the other treks to get ideas, its so obvious.

its something that i feel should be moving forward anyway, not backwards.

sometime after the war with the dominion would be ideal if not the time ship idea. new tech (not old) new races and new things. maybe even something catastrophic changing the balance of power dramatically. how about something that leads to a new race working its way though the alpha quadrant destroying everything in its path forcing all the factions together in defence of the whole quadrant. something meaty anyway that would make som e good TV.

and there is an almost unlimited amount of material which could be used to play things out

Wouldnt that just be one big 7 year long clip show
