Acetate Printing

Not sure where this should go.

Anyone know of anywhere in the City Center that you can print/photocopy on to acetate (transparent) sheets?
How much does it cost?
Does that Reads copy place do it?

Any copy shop worth their salt should be able to do it. Last time I got some, it cost something like 15-20 cent a page.

Alternatively, you can pick up acetates from any office supplies place and run them off yourself. Not sure about doing this on inkjets but I've had no trouble running them through standard laser printers.

If it is black and white (white on an acetate ?) you could get some special photocpyable acetates and use an ordinary photocopier - they usually have a coloured strip on the edge.

If you use ordinary acetates in a copier or laser printer they will melt - it will need a guy out to repair it (€100 call out) and new fuser (HP €400) and probably other bits too ..

Inkejets also use special acetates - one side is micro roughened to hold the ink - the other is smooth.

afaik they print off all standard photocopers perfectly fine

very true, a girl where i work put acetates through a colour laserjet 4500 and melted about 20 onto the fuser, told her they were the wrong type of acetates and not to use them again, replaced the fuser 4 a few hundred quid and left, 20 minutes later got a call from same person sayin their printer wasn't workin and guess what was melted onto the fuser

i always wondered or presumed are acetates called acetates because the substance they are made of contains acetate groups or some polymerised acetate anyone know if this is true?

Even in a photocopier, don't do the transparencies as a batch job. Put them through one at a time. Things can go horribly wrong.
