The Link Between Avatar and Username

the images we choose for our avatar become part of our boards personality and if somone changes theres its really confusing or somthing. just that whole association thing with images. Its almost as if you should never change you avatar because in some respect your changing the others see you.

i didnt like that bubble eyed thing anymore and im going back to my old friend calvin.

True. I often find too that you tend to make an assumption on whether a person is male or female based on their avatar.

When two people have the same avatar it can be confusing too. There should be a lock on avatars that are already in use.

What pisses me off is when people call themselves something and choose a different avatar. Although I myself am somewhat guilty of that meself. Had I thought about it I would have chosen the Homer Simpson in the hat one, Don Homer, as it'd have had more relevance to the name. Still I love my instant martian av and I don't think I'll ever change it. Besides afaik nobody else has this one so I'm delighted.

We do tend to think of each other in terms of their avs. I've said this someplace else before and it is confusing. I find myself scrolling down thru threads and seeing a specific av and reading posts that way, I also get confused when multiple people have the same av.

its not just when someone steals your own... i often see a relatively new person using an avatar which is really the trademark of an older member... it seems....unnerving

hmm theres no link between my username and avatar no none at all.

yeah it is weird when someone swtiches avatar or if you associate it a particular poster and someone else uses it.

for example someone was replying to me in broadband, i recognized the avatar and responded with thanks joe bloggs, realised after it wasn't joe bloggs and john bloggs goes who the **** is joe bloggs and there was general post editing and stuff.
