Virus anyone?

I'm assuming this is a virus, I scanned it with avg but nothing it got nothing, then zone alarm suggested I shouldn't open it, just be aware Is there a virus alert forum? Edit...I updated avg, then it recognised it.

Edit...I updated avg, then it recognised it.

yup, got two of them today, one as a zip and one as a doc file, but only one of them had any text with the attatchment..

anyway, was going to open them (cos i was in college) but i decided not to cos Im nice like that.

thats the first e-mail virus Ive gotten, actually, well, that I noticed, yay me... not really, I think Its because I posted my e-mail addy in the bands section etc, and straight afterwards I had the mails.

Thanx irish1, apparently it's a pretty hard hitting virus then. I'm sure tech suppost people will be overjoyed.

Yep I'm wokring night shifts as a computer tech and we got the word last night about 11pm, luckily we managed to curtail it.

the server virus scanner in my work picked it up before it got into my email. Lucky I'm guessing. It somehow managed to email itself to my address my reading the address from my system. It was sent to an address that has NEVER been given out to anyone before.

Its probley one of those 1`s that send 2 1 person and then auto sends to 5 more then auto sends to 5 more ect.

what i dont understand is why people send viris to other people.

Mabe if some guy raped your wife/doughter and there was no evidence to convict him , then yes for the rest of your life keep sending him viris after viris to try to make his life missirble.

But why send a viris to someone who did nothing wrong?
I just dont understand it?

Could it be possible that some people get some weird sexual plesure from sending viris to other people?

it's extremely annoying in work. Some web script or something is grabbing the email addresses. Thing that bothers me was I only had boards, jes-computers and google open at the time along with my email program

Oh yeah, sure. A computer virus. THATS the way to go.

Yes i am asleap. I should have used a less extreme situtation.

Say you are some kid in school who has no friends and people treat you like crap and give you a hard time (both physical and mental bullying) . Then yes it would be ok to viris them

But to simply send a viris for no reason or because you dont like the way someone looks or they stole your "bird" is just crap. Or someone won a arguement online and u viris them - NOT a good enough excuse

I personley believe that NO situtation can justify the use of a viris.
Its just some situtations are more justified than others.

Afaik they're made by people who want to show off to others and highlight flaws in an operating system (mainly windows.)

Or quite simply to extract info from people for selfish gain.

I've noticed at work today there's a increase in customers getting infected with the blaster virus.
The amount of unpatched WinXP machines still in the wild is crazy

I patched up for Blaster last year when it first came out and never had any probs but got hit with it for the first time last Sunday. I checked to see if there's a new strain but couldn't find anything. No idea how I got it with the patch installed for months..
Norton recognised it and said it had removed it but I still had shutdown probs until I ran a separate removal tool. Odd.

I use Mimesweeper on our Lotus Notes server. Just have .exe .pif and .scr blocked all the time. I keep .zip blocking on standby. our anti-virus let it through, even though it was last updated a few days ago.

Couple that with poledit restricting the programs the folks here can run and you're pretty safe.

Got three since yesterday, caught them all, One in a document.zip, one in data.pif and one in another zip file. AVG did the job, I update it daily.

Thanks a million Fabritzo, i didnt really pay much attention to your post, but then my dad got an email with that exact text in it, i recognized it and told him it was a virus
