I didn't know where to post this so I'll stick it here.

If I buy something off Ebay to I have to pay VAT or any other taxes or payments?

    Cheers.

    - make sure the person sending you the item marks it as a gift and not as merchandise and you should be ok AFAIK

if your buying stuff from the states then as brocklanders u should be ok. however depends on what your buying, you might have to pay import tax on hardware etc,

i bought a friend of mines b day pressey on ebay (cant say wot as its not her birthday yet) but i didnt have to pay any kind of tax, however my mate bought a load of computer stuff from the states and had to pay import tax (or custom tax or some such) before customs would give him the stuff. so it really depends on what your buying, something like concert tickets would be ok where as weapons grade plutonium you'd probably have to pay a bit more to get into the country.
