AFAIK the only major danger is paranoia and panic attacks.

Thought I'd get my reply in before a "drugs are bad, m'okay" poster, but I was too late. A bit of informative advice would be more beneficial if you're trying to ward someone off taking something.

You’re going to take advice on this from strangers on an internet forum?

    Well
Your chance of getting a lethal overdose is pretty small , but the best thing before trying any new drug is to visit www.erowid.org and go to plants and drugs.
There you will find media reports , health risks and reviews of the highs given by most drugs available today , but before trying any new drug ,
    read read read....

If you havent already, I suggest you check out http://www.erowid.org/

Specifically, check out the Personal Experiences section under each heading

    Just a FYI,

It's not at all dangerous but I will say 3 things:
    - try a few mushrooms first, lsd can be a lot stronger.
    - always be in a comfortable and safe environment taking any hallucinogenic drug.
    - know what your taking.

don;t talk to anyone who you want to keep secrets from while on it. Mushrooms are considered a safer alternative afaik.

Start with a half and if you feel you can handle it after 70mins then take the other half. Make sure you are in a comfortable atmosphere, and have your food and music planned and ready well in advance as well as anything else you think you may enjoy. What kind is it? They vary in strength, PM me if you don't want to mention it on here

"Any drug can bring on a bad trip - even E, even alcohol (never got home, drunk, and cried?). "

When they say even E, are they suggesting that E's are safer than Acid.. I would have thought that Acid would have been the less harmfull drug, no?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 21,344 ✭✭✭✭Stark

That's what I would have thought as well. E raises your body temperature, potentially causing internal organ damage. It also contains a lot of impurities, some of which cause your jaw to go crazy, others can cause an allergic reaction in certain people. Most E dealers are fairly dodgy as well, a lot will give you tablets with no euphoria at all.

That's bad advice - nothing you have ever experienced can prepare you for a bad acid trip. No other drug can drive you to such fear and panic as acid can.

Try mushrooms first, and a low dose at that. You need to have a taste of the kind of effect hallucinogens can have on you before you can decide whether or not it's for you. Mushroom trips are generally a bit milder than acid trips, and a bad acid trip can be far worse than a bad mushroom trip (hard to explain).

You have to understand the risks you are taking with hallucinogens. I'm not talking about physical risks (apart from the possibility of walking in front of traffic, jumping out of a high window, etc). If you have a bad experience on any other recreational drug, it's normally fairly easily and quickly remedied. If you get too drunk, you can throw up, lie down, maybe pass out; you'll be ok soon enough. If you get too high on E, you can throw up, lie down, you'll be fine in half an hour (actually, you'll be much better than fine). If you enter a bad trip on hallucinogens, it will be with you for several hours and there is nothing anyone can do to help you. Once you are in the grip of mushrooms or acid, you can throw up all you like, it won't make a difference. Once the ride has begun, you can't get off.

You have to acknowledge the worst-case possibilities before you try something like acid. I know several people who were put off hallucinogens (and often other drugs) for life because of a bad first experience. You will see and experience things you never have before. If you have a good trip, it can be an amazing, eye-opening experience. If you have a bad trip, it can be one of the most unpleasant experiences of your life.

    Good luck :)

I think I heard somewhere that thorasine can be used to stop an acid trip. Is that true?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,368 ✭✭✭-ADREN-

right well then... eh .. i would much prefer to have a good trip quite obviously.. but really I cant make up my mind.. hmmm.. Are you more likly to have a good one than a bad one :)?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 21,344 ✭✭✭✭Stark

From what I've heard, you're more likely to have a good one.

    Good advice that!

Usually it's good fun, I've never had a bad trip but there's no way of telling what's going to happen. Try to remember that anything you experience is just your brain playing tricks on you, try not to get stuck on negative thoughts. Prolly easier said than done, though!

He's probably doin this because it's a lot easier to go into a website, where your totally anonymous to most people and ask about it, than it is to go up to people you know and ask about it.

Also, why not ask about it here, sure your gonna get the odd muppety reply as in any forum, it's part of the fun, but most people will give honest, decent helpful answers, as nearly all the above have been.

Perphaps your time as Mod on P.I. has tainted your attitude a bit to much Beruthiel, but your response is the only really unhelpful response here. And that isn't a good indication of your suitabliity to the P.I. forum.

This thread interests me also as I've never done any kind of drug except the socially accepted kind i.e. alcohol and nicotine.

try shrooms imho. You can't just jump into the deep end. You can buy things called "philosophers stones" online which contain the active ingredient of mushrooms. Take a low(ish) dose.

The first time I tried em I took a medium dose and I wasn't expecting some of the effects like the MAJOR paranoia(sp?). I was laughing uncontrollably all the way up to a party I was going to but when I got there I just wanted to leave. Too many people I didn't know etc. But when I got home I just freaked out and basically sat in my room waiting for the trip to end.
The second time though I had grown my own shrooms in a grow kit and I took them with a mate it was much better.

The thing about drugs like these are that once you've taken them you're basically giving up those few hours of your life to being totally fúcked, and once you take them there's no going back - which is actually VERY scary when mixed with the paranoia of the trip.

If you really want to do lsd though, make sure you're with a few good mates and just remember not to freak out even if you start seeing freaky shít.

I don't agree with mushrooms being the drug to start off on.
I found the experience on mushrooms to be VERY unpleasant compared to acid.
Just be careful, and as somebody said keep it as controlled as possible. :)

To minimize the chances of a bad trip, make sure you're in comfortable surroundings, where you're not going to be disturbed (a friend's flat for e.g.). Have some calming music at hand. For your first trip, have someone sober there with you in case someone has a bad trip. Preferably someone who has done hallucinogens before and knows what to say to someone on a bad trip.

If someone does start to panic, the 'sitter' should remind them that they're on drugs and that anything unpleasant they're feeling or seeing is probably not real. It's easy to lose your sense of time on trips, so it's easy to feel as though a bad trip is going to go on forever. Let the person know what time it is, and that it'll only be a couple of hours or whatever until they're ok. Your mind can also go into 'time loops' - this is where your thought process becomes cyclical, you think the same things over and over and you can be conscious of this loop, leading to panic that you can't escape this thought loop (this is more common with acid than shrooms). I remember trying to descend a long flight of stairs in an apartment complex once on a bad trip - I was going from the fifth floor to the ground floor trying to get outside, after the third or so set of stairs (there was no way I was taking the lift) I began to panic that I had entered a loop of some sort and that I would never get off the stairs, especially as all I could see when I looked down was more and more stairs. Not a pleasant experience.

Which reminds me - a lot of people who haven't done hallucinogens are under the impression that all they do is make you see and hear things. Not true - hallucinogens affect your mind as well as your senses. They change the way you think about things as well as the way you see or hear them. In fact, it's entirely possible to have a trip without any visual hallucinations.

Whatever you do, don't go outside on your first trip! Especially if you overdo it.

The only drugs that I would STRONGLY advise against taking are ecstasy and heroin. (to a lesser extent, cocaine). Anything else you can say "I'll try anything once" but you WILL go back to them.

I say go for it, I mean, by posting this it's clear you have a fairly liberal view towards drugs. It's true you can have a reeeally bad trip from LSD but I mean, you'll get over that and you'll know not to take it again. But my own philosophy is that I'll try most things once. I'm lucky I know a lot of people who have tried Es and Heroin though. They're bad news.

With LSD there is a chance of flashbacks years later even if you only took it once.

Roffle. It's quite clear you've never tried E. Saying that you WILL go back on E after trying one is like saying you WILL drink another alcoholic drink if you drink one. First of all, E is very very rarely addictive. Far more rarely than alcohol. Second, IMO, it's no big deal if you try it more than once (as alcohol). In fact, alcohol is one of my least favourite drugs - I've seen lives destroyed by it, I don't like the person I turn into when I'm on it, and I feel like crap the next day. Give me a €5 pill any night over €60 worth of booze.

just dont ****in do it is the simple answer, its stupid and immature... the only drug i have no problems with is dope(and i dont even smoke it).. everythin else is just too dangerous.. its just not worth the risk and its just pointless
