Flippant answer - Boards beer :D

Yeah I've met loads. Some I arranged on purpose. Other times I'd be talking to someone and realise, after a bit, that I had talked to them before on the web (often friends/associates of others I knew thru the web). Not really many weirdoes either....

I guess I should probably share this experience, if only to serve as a warning to others.

About 3 or 4 months after I joined boards.ie, I received an invitation from an upstanding member of the half-life community by the name of munch to meet up and play some Half-Life. Being young, lonely and foolish, I agreed. We were all set to meet up at his friend's house, or so I thought (investigation by the police revealed the owner had no relationship with munch). When I arrived, munch was standing by a car. He asked me if I'd help him carry in his PC, and I agreed. He opened the boot, and as I leaned over to pick up the monitor, he pushed me into the boot and slammed it shut. He then proceeded to drive off.

I can't honestly say how long I was in that boot, it seemed like an eternity. But I do know that when he finally stopped, threw me from the car into a ditch and poured stale beer all over me, I was a long way from home.

Of course, you probably won't believe this, just like the gardaí didn't at the time, but its true. I just hope people are aware of the dangers of meeting people they "know" on the internet.

    That doesn't sound real.

    K, few things:

Yes, the above did really happen. No, I'm not looking for sympathy, I've dealt with it and it isn't a source of much grief for me anymore. I only posted it so others may learn from my mistake. At the same time, I don't find utility_'s comment very nice. I'd like to see you deal with being kidnapped and humiliated like I was.

As for how I got away? I wish I could say I fought him off or something else that at least paints me with some dignity, but the truth is he drove off.

wtf did he do it ? did you ever find out

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,319 ✭✭✭sci0x

Jesus that must have taken a while to get over!!

But what about munch. How did he have no relationship with this fu*k that done this to you? I mean, munch told you to meet at this place and this guy suddenly throws you in his boot at the destination. Sounds setup.

And whatever happened to munch. How come there is no posted messsages by him when you search for his username?

    Bizmark:

I don't know, I really don't. I asked him repeaedly, but he denied the whole thing, said it must have been someone else. But *I* know it was him, and so does he.

I don't know what he had against me, I was only new and didn't interact in any big way with anybody at all, certainly not in a negative way. I presume he just got some sort of sick satisfaction from watching me suffer.

    sci0x:

There was no other person. It was munch who bundled me into the car, outside some random house of no connection to him at all. (To clarify, the "owner" mentioned in my first post was the owner of the address munch gave me, not the owner of the car)

munch got his nickname changed by the admins, as far as I know. From rereading threads from that time, I have a fair idea who it is

that SOOO didn't happen. How could ONE person throw you into a boot? It would only take the slightest of struggle to stop yourself from getting thrown into it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,457 ✭✭✭✭Dont be at yourself

Yes, you're obviously right. It was impossible, couldn't have happened! I mean, I obviously just imagined it, didn't I? Honestly utility_, are you trying to be as offensive as you can, or are you just completely tactless?

People get abducted everyweek by being pushed into car boots. When you're leaning in trying to lift something up, it doesn't take much strength at all to be pushed over.

Struggle? I wasn't exactly expecting it. I had my back turned, and was leaning over to lift something up. How was I supposed to struggle? :\

So he spent a long time there after throwing the beer over you. Probably to make you smell drunk and police think u dreamt the whole thing. Like there was no evidence of bodily harm, just your word against his.

You must have been terrified! Did he talk at all during the while scenario? Like would you recignise his voice. Well, spose you'd hardly remmember the voice now if it happened over 2 years ago.

No no, at the ditch he spent very little time there. He dumped me out, threw beer over me and got in the car and drove off. I had my hands over my head so I can't remember exactly what he did while there, though.

I don't really remember the voice, though I remember a country accent. He talked a fair bit when we first met, introducing himself and all. Funnily(perhaps not, considerig) enough, I can still remember the warm smile he had on his face - he didn't look like a creep at all, completely normal.

Please let us in on the private joke.

Wow nakey, I'm sorry for jesting in my first post. I never even new all this actually happened to you, I guess that's why you are so introverted and quiet at our lexcorp gatherings. You must be a brave person to still meet up with people you know on the internet, you have my respect and admiration.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,817 ✭✭✭✭po0k

    Aw Nakey :dunno:

Well, you know what they say "Often defiled, never deflowered".
    You got away lightly.

    You little scamp.

Well it has to be him coz...

NekkidBibleMan "still remember the warm smile he had on his face."

You must have felt like killing the bastard, lying to the guards in front of you.

bizmark: I was a few months shy of 16 when it happened. I must have weighed about 8 stone, and he was much bigger than me. Even if I was expecting it to happen, I don't know how much of a fight I could have put up. When I was lieing in that ditch beating the **** out of him was the last thing on my mind, I just wanted him to leave me alone.

Bicky: What's funny? From what *I* know, munch could force someone into a car. And I know a fair bit more about it than you, I think.

El Marco: It's ok, I know you mean well. Meeting up with you guys the first time was different. It was in a crowded area and the meet was between more than two people.

Syxpak: What are you trying to say? Munch didn't molest me, if that's what you mean. He may have derived sexual pleasure from it, but I was not touched in that way.

sci0x: Huh? I never actually seen him after that day. The warm smile on his face I remember from when we first met at the car, before I knew what he was going to do. It was munch though, I am certain.

Nah, i think he is trying to say you are lucky you got away with only drink being poured over you. He could have sexually assaulted you or beaten you up or done something a lot worse.

Yeah, that's what I was trying to say.

Sorry if I wasn't quite clear enough.

    What happened to your phone?
Did the battery die on you, adding insult to (psycological) injury?

    Wow, N, that is scary.

On a happier note tho' *I* met my partner online, and he travelled from the usa to get here, we have now been together (offline) for almost four years and I like to think we are pretty happy. :)

Somtimes, just somtimes, it does work out, but yes, caution is vital.
