As RTE plan to scrap their SW broadcasts today, (New Years Day) Was there ever a big audience for RTE on SW in the first place?

cant say that i knew of RTÉ broadcasting on short wave

Only 30 mins per day on a WRN channel.

They will continue to have the All-Ireland finals on SW though.

LIstened to this when in Australia. It was only 30 minutes a day, very scratchy reception, and mainly just news programming. I think there could've been a longer weekend show. I'd imagine most people who relied on shortwave would now access the internet - much clearer reception, much more programming, on-demand listening etc.
