So its christmas, but does that mean you have to degrade your workers so bad that they scoul at costomers?

This morning i took my usual 3 minute drive to my local statoil for my 10 marlboro lights and when i got in i was greeted by the whole staff wearing Santa Hats. I couldnt contain myself, i started laughing on the spot at the two girls behind te deli counter who thought these hats were great fun, but when i got to the counter it was a different situation.

Faced with a 6 foot 4 russian/swedish what ever... bloke with a very mean face on and a santa hat i made no bones about laughing at him.

Where i work were never made do stuff like wear a stupid hat - anyone here have to do stuff at christmas or any other holliday?

Basically it's just, "smile *squints at my badge* Adam embrace the season" which only makes me fall deeper into depression as the job is sooo badly paid!

I work in Roaches stores on henry street. ABout the only degrading thing I've recieved is this pathetic pep-talks before work starts.
Example: "Ok 'guys', I wanna see full drive on selling furniture today. Remember your (non existent) customer sales skills".

They don't try to make us wear hats any more in Dunnes, pity though I think it would be fun! It's prob cos we're all doing the night shift this week and that makes everyone go a little hyper/odd (I'v seen and heard some very strange things over the last 3 nights!):(

try customer service work ppl... I had to sit there all day listening to ppl bitch at me and get so worked up that their voices go 2 octaves higher than anyone would think possible when you're just trying to help them and answer their queries... bitch of a job and then having to say "happy christmas" at the end of every call (if they haven't hung up or started hyper ventilating at that stage)

    Lol.

I work in tesco part time on weekends to get myself through college we are encouraged to dress up or else dress up in a theme from a movie.

It just hit me imagine somoene came in looking like tom cruize in cocktail with a pair of sunglasses and granny knickers. That would be a nice sight when gettin served on checkouts.

(Just for the record) I dont do checkouts I stack shelves which in itself is bad but not as degrading as checkouts

    but go go go

When I was 16, 17 I used to wear a santa hat for christmas in the supermarket I used to work in. Thing is, I did it by choice, cause I thought it was a great laugh, and when talkin to customers, it made it a lot easier, cause most of them found it good craic as well. Also, when talkin to the other staff, it was a conversation piece, and the it drove the women mad sure :D

what is degrading about a santy hat?

btw.. I was once told by a woman that "you ruined my childs christmas!?!?"... workin on xmas day for a phone company when all the lines went down and she had got her child a mobile for xmas.... that sort of felt degrading... I didn't personally mean to ruin her childs christmas!

but the santy hat... I wouldn't mind that... there are alot more degrading things you could be made wear!
