OK so I wasn’t living near their proposed site in Dundrum and I don’t have to deal with incessant take offs and landings all day- and I don’t envy people who are subject to that.

BUT- it’s also disappointing - there’s no getting away from it- drone flights will eventually become more common - I’d like to see an EU wide framework for supporting their development in EU countries.

Placing a launch site proposal so close to housing etc was just plain wrong thing to do - but I do think Ireland has lost a trick or two here- and an Irish based company too.

Maybe they were just another money furnace start up with a bad business model.

Yep, they were chewing through money IIRC. One of those 'we'll start making money soon, honest guv' outfits.

Can't say I'm sorry to see them go.

I don't even live in Cork but it really annoyed me that they were being given exclusive rights to operate over Cork city essentially banning all other drone users from flying in the city. Never understood how that was ever entertained or considered fair.

For that reason alone I am gland they are pulling the plug.

Your comment is a shameful gross misrepresentation of a company which raised €100M including investors like the ISIF. Your post comes across like old fashioned begrudgery. Manna has a bright future in more enlightened jurisdictions that dont allow nimbyism to trump national policy objectives

Every business tries to make a profit. But these lads managed to annoy so many people in that pursuit that it was only a matter of time before they called it a day. Didn't they also open a delivery centre without planning permission?

I don't want to live in a world where there are constant non stop drones whining around delivering coffees and cheeseburgers to people

    Ban billionaires

People need to cop the **** on. I can't and don't understand the modern culture of getting takeaways regularly, let alone getting them delivered, and now even more so getting them delivered by a flying drone. Surely there are far far more admirable uses for such technology than clogging up airways with takeaways?

I don't believe we should be stating that this specific implementation of the technology helps with any national policy objective. How are they making that link?

In fairness their business model was always going to depend on delivery of something more high value than coffee

Crazy, stupid idea where our skies are filled with drones delivering crap night and day. No doubt they'll lap it up in the states but it should be fairly obvious at this stage that whatever the US do, europe should do the opposite if we want any quality of life.

Nothing to do with begrudgery, we've had years of tech bros and their inventions and apps for everything all propped up by venture capitalists, self appointed masters of the universe and cheap interest.

Luckily this era is coming to an end, and every bright idea dreamt up by a founder on a bean bag isn't treated like they've just split the atom.

he raised over 100m? how much did he lose?

    they were not in profit.

they were deliberately trying to move faster than the legislative process could because the one thing they did not want was scrutiny or a debate about whether they were universally welcome.

Basically the Elon Musk code of practice. Oversell, get investment, try to circumvent the rules every way possible, bitch about it when you're pulled up.

Fair play to DLRCC, they have gone up so much in my estimation. Manna wasn't wanted or needed.

    It needs to be democratized.

So, drones must fly over everyone's house, especially the people who are making money off it, and over TDs and Minister's houses.

If I order a latte I should be able to pay a little bit extra to get it to fly over someone else's house. Or just pay for a drone to hover over someone's house for a while. I meant they are harmless and quiet - what's the problem ?

    good riddance

These constantly fly over my house in Cork. You could easily have ten of them an hour flying over your garden. They are beyond annoying, especially if you want to sit ououtside. They iinterupt conversation. They break your concentration if you are trying to read. They drive dogs nuts. They drive me nuts. And, if allowed to continue, they will become a literal constant presence above our heads.

As a society, we don't need this. Certainly not for something as frivolous as fast food or coffee. Go out and get it yourself or, failing that, there's lads on bikes that will deliver for a similar fee to these god-awful things.

Is it an offence to make a homemade slingshot and shoot them out of the sky?
    Serious question BTW.
When they did fly, delivering Chow brains and Deep fried balls to leafy Castleknocker people , would it have been an offence to try and blast them out of the sky?
What protections if any did they have when flying?

For sure a completely uncesserary service, and dubious business tactics. It won't be missed.

Can't say it bothered me that much. Seems to have bothered people who never heard it more.

For starters, it would be a criminal offence. You’d be deliberately damaging someone else’s property, namely that of Manna. You don’t own the airspace over your property, so it’s not like Manna were trespassing. You, or whoever shot down the drone, would also be liable for any damage the drone caused on its way down, as well as for any damage caused by projectiles that missed the drone and impacted somewhere else. I’m not sure about the legality of building your own slingshot, so someone else can take a stab at that.

Personally, I’m both glad and sad to see them gone. They were obviously a bunch of chancers who thought that the rules didn’t apply to them and, speaking as a recreational drone flyer myself, their attempt to essentially steal the airspace over Cork city centre was a slap in the face.

Having said that, the idea as such does have merit, and I believe there is a place for this in the market. Ireland should get proper regulation for drone delivery services in place before the next company tries its luck.

Good luck trying to figure me out. I haven't managed that myself yet!

Be an awful shame if someone was practising with a hurl out their back garden and the drone flew into a ball etc… Would Manna be on the hook for damaging a sliotar?

It's not what it is now. It's what it'll become. It's just another means to ridiculous hyper consumption and environmental destruction.

More noise, more surveillance, more intrusion.

    More mental health problems.

More crap to terrorise the pitiful remains of wildlife we are passing on to our children.

But hey, you can have your burger faster.

GDP grow big. Uggghhhhh. Goto Mars.

What a **** sad species we are.

Kinda angry about this because you can bet big tech and maga are on the blower to Simon and co to roll over on this.

    Thank Christ!

The sky should really be seen as sacred. Imagine a future where you look up and it's not only full of drones delivering things but there are also static drones displaying advertisements.

Drone delivery for emergency life saving drugs to save lives would be good.

All other commercial use of drones should be restricted in any public area.

The public nuisance from private drone operators in public places is not acceptable imo
