Well yea they’re usually a top ranked side they will always have easy draws like any other big national team in Europe

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,555 ✭✭✭✭AndyBoBandy

yeah but the Pot 2 team they usually always get are the weakest of the Pot 2 teams, and are only in Pot 2 to make up the numbers.. and would ordinarily be a Pot 3 team..

    Anyway, The World Cup

All 48 teams have now played.. that felt like a lot of games!! so all again times 2…

England were very good 2nd half last night, get Saka back and start Rashford and they'd be even better. Having said that with the squad he picked, an injury or 2 in defense and they're in trouble. Wouldn't fancy the like of Spence or Burn against a top side.

I anticipate a busy time for the referee later, the Czechs are niggly and if the South Africans react like they did v Mexico it could get stormy.

Couldn't bring myself to travel when we didn't qualify.
My wife and son went to represent the family 🙂

South Africa are the worst team at this World Cup. Completely clueless.

    Dull stuff here. Dull.

    Not for their fans obviously.

South African lad with one of the worst stepovers ever.

Shame about South Korea and Mexico kick off time, would be interested in seeing that but no chance staying up till 2am.

I can't ever recall seeing a good South African football team. Plenty of energy put nothing else.

    Lucky enough penalty now.

Well, we were 2 up against these guys, in their own back yard. Before throwing it away....

With the Tokyo Olympics I remember going to bed around 8 or 9pm and getting up at 2 or 3am for events I wanted to see. The body clock does go a bit all over the place.

South Korea v Mexico is the game of the day but I wouldn't do that routine for it!

I'll save the late late nights for the knock out games.

The absolute state of Schick, going down whinging while they're in the middle of a dangerous break late on. He's meant to be the lad bursting into the middle to try to get on the end of things like.

Schick really can't hide his disdain for the ref.

Improved a bit in the 2nd half, as background noise, but sounded like SA deserved a point.

    Neither team much use overall

Czechs are grim enough. Doesn't say much for us.

Two teams that won't be missed.

Don't understand the fuss the RTE panel are making over the penalty, a shot at goal was blocked by the defenders hand. To me that should always be a penalty.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,122 ✭✭✭EagererBeaver

There's an angle that shows it hit his left hand that was sticking out rather than the right arm he had tucked properly. Stonewall.

The Czechs are very limited indeed. We will regret for a long time the way we threw away that playoff game

It's super subjective though, since intent is an integral part of judging it.

The Premier League and Champions League for instance have totally different takes on it — that likely wouldn't be a penalty in the premier league (your hand has to be either above your chest, or really fully held out very intentionally in the PL), but it very likely would have been in the Champions League where it tends to be much stricter.

No vuvuzelas in the SA support this time?

The ref left them get away with murder that night.

Twenty something fouls and only 1 yellow card. They made no attempt to play football.

The free they scored their second goal from wasn't even a foul.
