Watched a bit of England vs New Zealand over the weekend, the main thing that struck me is that I think Anderson and Mainoo are very similar in the way they want to play. Anderson's forward passing was impressive, albeit in a friendly. While he might be seem as an all rounder, I'm not sure Mainoo and himself would be the ideal pairing.

Maybe it's the fact that it seems he's destined for City, but I do think I would prefer a more defensive midfielder like Anderson / M Fernandes alongside Mainoo.

If it came down to it, I would be going for Fernandes + a quality FB instead of Anderson (assuming you could probably get either option for similar spend).

The signs for Fernandes to us are good, Simon Stone and his agents via givemesport (god knows their tier) are saying a deal should be done.

I think its most likely he gets another loan tbh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,094 ✭✭✭✭johnnyryan89

They should try talk with him about the future and contracts. Even a 12 month extension for another loan because I have think you can even increase his value more. But if he flat out says I want first team football and won't be extending my contract move him on with clauses.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,775 ✭✭✭Iseedeadpixels

Probably but they better tie him down to a new contract because hes only got 2 years left and loaning him out eats into any fee we can get from a sale.

I'd have no issue with selling him this summer. Coventry will need a new #1 as I'm pretty sure they won't be selling Rushworth so why not see what they'd be willing to pay for Vitek. Heavily incentivise the deal with buy back, relegation clause, percentage of future sale etc and see how he copes with being a PL #1. Ideally that's what I'd love to happen. More likely is we accept a half decent bid from a promotion chasing Championship club after the summer tour

I do think Vitek is probably a bit unlucky with how well Lammens has done.

I wouldn't think there is a lot between them but Vitek won't displace him unless Lammens form falls off a cliff.

If we loan him him I hope it's not to a team like Coventry where he will be busy every game and you will see mistakes.

A loan to a decent team in Europe would be ideal.

I would prefer if we sold him for 20+ million and invest in the summer.

    A buyback clause included.

It doesn't matter much if Lammens is very good. If people at the club think Vitek has another couple of levels to go up, then they should loan him out again or sell at a high price. It all depends on what kind of offer you might get for him.

Chelsea kept hold of Courtois despite Cech doing very well for them, but Courtois still displaced him after two loan spells at Atletico. If Vitek ends up better than Lammens and we still own him, he should displace him.

Ornstein thinks we'll be the busiest club.

Take with a large pinch of salt and then some more, but…

“Manchester United remain intent on signing Elliot Anderson, with the club’s executives optimistic they can beat Manchester City in the race to acquire the 23-year-old midfielder”

I don’t rate Jamie Jackson as a journalist and I doubt that he has some scoop here… but as it’s Anderson, I’m willing to get sucked in a bit and hope that there is some truth in this.

Had me excited until I see Jamie feckin Jackson!

    Some bits from Laurie Whitwell

United are considering a move for Karl Darlow for experienced backupGK.

Sam Johnston another option. Both would count as homegrown

Mateus Fernandes high among the options but wont meet WHU valuation

    Baleba, Tonali, Wharton next options

Also considering option for left wing

    Lewis Hall mentioned again

A Centre Forward should also arrive if Zirkzee leaves

    No mention of Christian Romero

We should definitely stay away from Romero anyway.

mufc are working on a new timetable to complete Ederson's signing. It's not impossible that he completes his transfer during the World Cup, though it would require permission from the player and the CBF.

mufc have joined Man City in the race to sign Marc Cucurella, with Chelsea valuing the defender at €40–50m. He is keen to leave the club, and Chelsea are open to a sale, although his preferred destination is a return to Barcelona.

Atlético Madrid are currently the most interested side from La Liga. Cucurella is expected to wait until after the World Cup before making a decision [@mundodeportivo]—————

Bild journalist Christian Falk has reported that while Bayern would have no problem in paying the transfer fee that Man Utd would demand for Rashford, the Bavarian giants would have an issue in paying his salary. With Man Utd qualifying for the Champions League next season, Rashford’s salary is now £325,000 per week.

Not sure on the reliability of some of these but no harm throwing them in.

Bayern would be a great move for Rashford. Besides, hasn't he already agreed to reduce his salary for Barcelona?

I can't see us managing to sell or loan 3 keepers and buy another one this summer. Not sure I would want them focusing on that either given the transfers we need elsewhere.

Would it not make most sense just to hang onto Bayindir as backup.... and try to loan/sell Onana and Vitek.

Bayindir isn't great but he could do the job for a year while other priorities are focused on.

It's certainly something I wouldn't expect too much news/movement on until the end of the window / until our current 3 backups are sorted.

Quite like this new approach to transfers. West Ham want 80, Utd don't think its worth it, will walk away unless a dral can be struck. Sensible in the fact we always get charged Utd tax. Hopefully that's a thing of the Woodword past.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,872 ✭✭✭caviardreams

Bayindir is nearly as bad as Onana imo. I still remember a game where he was literally flapping at every single corner.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,437 ✭✭✭AidoEirE

Bayindir or Onana should be knowhere near a Utd squad.

    wrong thread:(

Main reason we can do that, is we're working on a few deals at a time.

For years we concentrated on one deal and didn't move off it.

Roy & Bruno have had a chat. All is good in the world again :-)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 49,513 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

I don't like that roy didn't admit what he said Bruno said… was wrong. All well and good clearing the air between them, but to not correct the public criticism, that was factually wrong, means that public criticism will remain something people point to again in the future. "Sure even Roy Keane called him out for playing for himself".

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,628 ✭✭✭✭PARlance

My point is more about priorities this summer rather than how good/bad Bayindir is. That's in the context and understanding that we have a lot of signings to do this summer to get a squad ready to compete in more than 40 games.

Bayindir is out of contract next summer, while I don't think he's a very good keeper, I would prefer us to be more focused on efforts elsewhere.

As it stands, we need to offload Onana somehow, and possibly offload Vitek if he doesn't sign an extension / get a loan sorted.

If we're replacing Bayindir, then he needs to be offloaded as well. And only when all 3 of them look like being sorted, a backup would need to be signed. I can't see them signing a backup without knowing that Bayindir, Onana, Vitek have been sorted.

Now, the new football guys seem to be able to work on a lot more deals at once, but that's a lot of work and focus on what every club hopes is a fairly unimportant position. I would prefer if they were prioritizing other areas.

The ideal situation would be that Vitek is backup for next year and we just have to offload Onana and Bayindir, but from what is being put out there, it doesn't seem likely.

It seems any GK we pick up will be a free transfer to go alongside Lammens & Heaton as the 3 senior GKs. Having an undisputed #1 isn't a bad thing, you don't need a "cup GK". Lammens, barring injury could easily play 55 games next season. Now if we draw League 1 or 2 opposition in the Cups in the early rounds then by all means give Darlow or Heaton a game.

They don't have to prioritise it but they can still work on it. That's the point of having those dedicated roles.

Backup keeper can go from unimportant to the most important position with just 1 injury. We've seen the difference having Lammens has made so having to go back to Bayindir would be really poor.

There's a decent list of options there for keepers who could potentially come in as backup so I don't see a good reason we can't give some time to it. It's not the kind of deal that will drag out for the summer over a massive fee.
