It's all about the type of people u associate with folks.

May I suggest Rte n the Irish times for all the info you require regarding how wonderful all this diversity is. The refugee industry does not approve of WhatsApp n Twitter.

Would you refuse to receive information or your news from RTE or the Irish Times?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,674 ✭✭✭Jb1989

If yous read my post you'd see all I said was how does people see all these videos on social media yet I don't. I'm not disputing what happened in Belfast, I'm on about social media. How anyone can stand with a phone videoing violence instead of helping is beyond me. Looks almost everyone here is brainwashed in some form

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,290 ✭✭✭endainoz

The people that are engrossed is these kinds of videos are simply doing what the social media companies want, for people to stay on their platform as long as possible. The more horrific the story the better, people by nature engage way more with negative stories and confrontation online, all made to keep people on the platform. Boards allows it too to a certain extent though it's not algorithms here.

Agreed, social media is laughing at the country.

It just shows how warped main stream media is.

Rte and the main political parties are only interested in bashing the Jews. Who gives a feck about the Irish isreal soccer match, anyway

Do you mind me asking what newspapers you buy or subscribe to, and what mainstream media you listen to or watch?

The killing of Alex Coughlan was covered by RTÉ News, RTÉ Radio 1, The Irish Times, Irish Independent, Sunday Independent, Irish Examiner, The Journal, BreakingNews.ie, Irish Daily Mirror, Irish Sunday Mirror, The Irish Sun, Irish Daily Star, Sunday World, Crime World, Gript, Dublin Live, Newstalk, FM104 News and 98FM News with plenty of follow up stories with family and friends of the deceased.

Did you see, hear or watch any of these stories? Did someone tell you they weren't covered by media and that it's been swept under the carpet?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,289 ✭✭✭older by the day

I listen to a lot of radio as im outside mostly.

Today it was west cork today on 103fm. Never heard a mention,

Went on the rte radio news at 1pm, mentioned that the " incident" is only used to help the far right. Then a piece of liveline. Totally away with the fairies. On about isreal soccer

No, I refuse to pay for either of them though. The vast majority of people polled said immigration numbers are too high into Ireland. God knows what the percentage would be if asked about refugees.

Can u name me an Rte presenter who's views align with the majority of people on immigration?

Whether a presenter agrees with the majority view on immigration is irrelevant. Their job is to report the news, not to reflect their own opinions.

If RTÉ, the Irish Times, the Independent and others are reporting on immigration, asylum seekers and refugee issues every day, how does the fact that a presenter may or may not personally agree with the majority prove they're not reporting the news?

Why are they brainwashed. Is it because they wanted to understand what happened last night.
People did help the man A man with a hurl probably saved his life. You make it sound easy to tackle a man armed with a knife in the middle of a brutal attack.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 10,819 ✭✭✭✭893bet

I thought the fella was quiet restrained with the hurl. He could have swung far wider.

Any idea of the back story yet ?

Rte n their staff push an open borders agenda at every turn , they got 750 mil funding from the government to help spread the good word. They'll survive without my e160 telly licence I reckon, they'll have to!

Ah sure the poor aul Somali Doctor/Surgeon/Enginer has mental health problems and him cutting the mans throat was a cry for help. The man that got his throat slashed and those people who intervened should be ashamed of themselves. The PSNI officers should have put everyone apart from the Somali Doctor/Surgeon/Engineer in handcuffs, pepper sprayed them and battered the bejaysus out of them. Thoughts and prayers with the Somali Doctor/Surgeon/Engineer.

#open borders #refugees welcome #diversity #our health services can’t function without these people

    #Eu migration treaty

It's because grown men are on here putting up links to the Internet every half hour, instead of doing some work. I only came on here to check the beef price and now I'm sucked into a debate over foreigners stabbing the Irish. Would yous ever man up and kill the foreigners yourselves instead of writing oul left wing right wing nonsense, behind a keyboard. Your forefathers are turning in their graves looking at there offspring pansys whingeing about foreigners instead of doing something about it. I'm going back to the beef price thread, let yous be glued to your tik Toks and face books 😂

He was from Sudan and was in UK (via Dublin) on a 5-year visa. There will no doubt be questions asked over the processing of this individual and why no flags were raised. Regardless of what happened initially between the two (I've seen no reliable sources detailing the lead up to this) this level of barbarity has no place anywhere in the world.

Some of these people come from a culture where violence is the norm and it just isn't compatible with where we are now. (No crass comments about the Troubles).

Governments in Ireland and UK have failed to deal (and to show they are dealing) with problematic migrants. This has allowed those on the right whom they complain about to fill the void. Add to that the problems with affordable housing and jobs which suit young people looking to pay off mortgages and you see why the young are leaving in droves. It is now a right of passage to head off, and many of them won't return. Housing and payments being given to the migrants, whether justifiable or not, leaves a bad taste in the mouths of those who watch loved ones struggle or leave for better opportunities.

There is a perfect storm brewing and both Gov's inability to show they are on top of things could well lead to big shift come next election.

Takes no longer to watch than it did for you to type out whatever nonsense that reply was. You definitely need to see the video, you've had a shocker on here today trying to deflect from what's happened.

Let's take this post as an example. According to you, he's Somali, probably based on something you saw on social media. Yet the traditional media outlets, with journalists and editors, are reporting that he's Sudanese.

Which do you think is more likely to be correct?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,532 ✭✭✭funkey_monkey

I'd treat it as I hate the sight of it. Imaverol is what I used. That look like a mild case though. Can you get it in handily enough to reapply?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,532 ✭✭✭funkey_monkey

TBF - many mainstream outlets were reporting him as Somali until the PSNI corrected this later in the morning:

They are away from the yard.

I'll defo get one spray on her..she's v quiet but after that she'll hardly comply.

They'll be back near the house in 10days.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,290 ✭✭✭endainoz

A very well put together and well thought out piece should definitely be more of that. I'm not sure if it's anything to do with Sudanese culture and more so just a completely psychotic individual that should have never been allowed in the country.

Could definitely see the likes of Sinn Fein go with a more populist view if they notice winds changing, they seem to be sitting on the fence on things a lot lately.

It all keeps going back to poor housing policy, and it's been a ticking time bomb for many years now. It's only getting worse, neo liberal policies have a hell of a lot to answer for as do big tech companies.

Your another that hasnt read my original post.

I haven't seen the video as I'm not on social media.

    Share it here please so.

My original post was asking how so many grown men are sharing videos, and watching tik toks, my post has nothing to do with what happened in Belfast as I've not heard much about it. Because older by the day took it up that I'm left or right wing your another jumping on that bandwagon without reading my post.

Hope this reply isn't nonsense to you.

Don't like to see it around, had one calf that started showing signs on head and rump. Was thinking of imaverol but chanced a shot of multimin to boost the immune system as it self limiting, nearly gone now

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 11,717 ✭✭✭✭John_Rambo

    Excellently put.

Many mainstream outlets were reporting on it from the start. It was only really missed by people who weren't following the news.

I just happened on the video a few minutes ago. I didn't go looking for it.

It doesn't matter what his nationality was. He was a man attempting to cut another man's head off while having his victim incapacitated on the ground.

Whatever his education status he knows he won't be getting the death penalty in Northern Ireland. My own mind says his family in Africa are probably looked after financially by a state at war with western Europe and that was the reward to carry out the attack.

My own solution whether he was state backed or just mentally ill. Would be the death penalty. Especially a crime as obvious as this. If foreign people at war with you see a weakness, they'll take it. He'll be housed and fed at his majesty's pleasure.
