    ah…. i just upgraded to the 9a about 6 months ago. do i really need a new 10a? 🤔

claude tells me the differences are minimal

Here's a clear breakdown of the key differences:

    Pixel 9a vs Pixel 10a

Chipset — both run on the same Tensor G4 chip. The 10a doesn't get an upgrade to Tensor G5, which reviewers have flagged as a notable disappointment given that the chip was already showing its age by 2024. GSMArena

Display — the Pixel 10a reaches up to 3,000 nits peak brightness versus 2,700 nits on the 9a, and upgrades to Gorilla Glass 7i compared to Gorilla Glass 3. Both are 6.3-inch screens at the same resolution. T-Mobile

Battery — both have a 5,100 mAh battery delivering 30+ hours of regular use, but the 10a extends Extreme Battery Saver mode to 120 hours compared to 100 hours on the 9a. T-Mobile

Camera — the two phones share the same camera hardware — both a 48 MP primary rear camera and 13 MP front camera — and both use Tensor G4 for AI photography processing. T-Mobile

Safety — the 10a adds Satellite SOS support, which the 9a does not have. T-Mobile

Design — the 10a keeps the same minimalist design but is slightly lighter and introduces new colour options. Back Market

Price — both launched at $499 for the base 128 GB model.

Bottom line: it's a modest generational refresh. The meaningful gains are display brightness, glass durability, extended battery saver, and Satellite SOS — everything else is essentially identical. If you already have a 9a, it's hard to justify upgrading.

    Unlocked ?
Cheapest way to get SIM to be able to port number and keep your own ?

All pixels are unlocked as far as I know, in fact I am not 100% but aren't most phones unlocked these days?

I can't remember last time I have heard of a device being carrier locked, don't think it's as common as it once was

You have submit a photo ID through ID Pal to order. Is this a new thing?

Any restrictions on the number to would a Lycamobile work?

If you're a power user, I'd skip it as the G4 tensor chip is starting to show it's age and slow down a little after recent updates. It's definitely not as snappy as it was a year or so ago, and the ram amount is starting to cause multiple app management to become a slog.

But if you're a general light user, I'm sure it'll be fine.

I've just bought one and upgraded from a Pixel 6, so think this will be worthwhile. You'll probably need a new email address, it was blocking my order with an email I'd used previously with these Vodafone deals.

I know somebody mentioned about the Tensor G4 chip being last gen, but a new 'a' model won't be out until this time next year, so for 250e (no need to buy a top up online) I think it's a good deal. Thanks OP

Worth it for a Pixel 7 update? Works fine, but battery is poor enough and I seem to be constantly running out of space!

    I am on 48.ie

I ordered yesterday early afternoon, just got confirmation that delivery will be via DPD tomorrow.

I used a spare 3 SIM (which will now be a spare VF SIM if I ever need to 'port' over again!) and a new email address.

I'm already on VF, need to upgrade my pixel 6.

    What's the process?

    -Purchase lyca esim

-Buy new pixel 10a and switchover the lyca number

-Pay for 1 month of VF payg

So 250 plus another 30 for lyca + switchover?

You don't need to pay anything over the purchase price of the phone. Or at least, you didn't have to for the 9a when they did this deal.

Buy/avail of a free sim card (from anywhere),

Insert it into a compatible phone,

Buy the 10a using the new number form your free sim,

Last step of this is you need to enter a code,

They send you a text with a code to your free sim,

    Enter on website,

    Pay for new 10a,

    Order complete.

Once you have entered the code on the website, you can ditch the new sim card and just go back to your current one. When the 10a arrives, just stick your current sim in and away you go.

did you have to supply any ID proofs? I am being told my order was cancelled as no ID proof was submitted - interestingly it was never asked for ! I selected Prepay - physical sim - data unlimited 5g

Mrs badly needed a new phone and was going to get this, picked up an eir sim earlier to port but was Sold Out again, went with a 9a (much the same phone) from Three for the same price instead.

Temporarily out of stock but keeping fingers crossed it'll reappear soon

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,496 ✭✭✭.red.

I ordered one yesterday at about 4 o clock. Fingers crossed it gets sent out. My current phone was gotten on another €200 off deal almost 3 years ago and the battery is starting to drop very quickly the last few months.

You have a perfect 9a 6months and your trying to convince yourself you dont need to upgrade...sounds like you have next gen FOMO

Heres a bargain alert.. Dont buy anything unless you actually need it, huge savings to be made

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 214 ✭✭ACAandCTA

It's back in stock now. AI (e.g. Gemini) is a great tool for giving an overview of your current phone compared to this, plus telling you what might be coming down the line, can make a bit more of an informed decision.

There's a website called visualping that you can use to set up alerts e.g. send it the pixel 10a URL, set up an alert when out of stock appears/disappears, you can get an email with any changes in status

Will an eSim work for this ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 489 ✭✭PreCocious

Vodafone site always seems to glitch for me with "Something happened on our side".

Tried different browsers and different networks. Get as far as the section about communications preferences and boom, it's gone ..

I had this too also. I changed the email address and it worked then as email used initially was associated with a Vodafone a/c. Still waiting for a tracking number though and ordered yesterday morning. Hopefully it'll come.

Two separate orders, both went through, payment taken Tuesday. No cancellation emails but status says cancelled.
