He's the first I can remember to go over who just oozes natural footballing ability. A bit like the auld lad.

Mullen, Tommy Walsh, O'Halpin, McKenna, O'Riordan etc. were more athletic types.

I think I prefer the ladies AFL to the ladies football. Seems notches up in levels, and aggression. Loads of Irish over there.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

Draws Tuesday will be interesting. Especially the losers group. If kerry get an away game to meath or roscommon they could be in trouble.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,429 ✭✭✭Westernview

I hope some interesting draws like that happen. One of the best things about the current system is seeing big teams having to go to provincial grounds in other provinces needing a win. Donegal playing in Killarney and Kerry in Roscommon was unheard of up to recent years.

This from the RTE running commentary sums up the point not given situation. If it was to equalise at the death, it would be an almighty controversy. It will get a bit of traction, but that won't matter now.

"RTÉ GAA analyst Conor McManus not happy afterwards when discussing a Bobby McCaul effort given wide. It does look over, to be fair. Tough to take in a one-point loss, although it was not near the end of the game."

    Again from RTE.

"So here's the story for TUESDAY'S (yes, Tuesday's) draw on RTÉ Radio 1.

Round 2A - first team drawn will have home advantage Armagh, Cork, Donegal, Galway, Louth, Mayo, Tyrone, Westmeath.

Round 2B - first team drawn will have home advantage Cavan, Derry, Dublin, Kerry, Kildare, Meath, Monaghan, Roscommon."

I think they would beat Meath comfortably enough.

Roscommon certainly they would want to avoid home or away and probably Dublin too even though the Dubs are poor. Derry up in Derry another slightly tricky one.

Cavan or Kildare obviously the nice draw.

Whats the definition of near the end of a game I wonder? It felt like it happened when Monaghan were on a surge.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 24,768 ✭✭✭✭dxhound2005

Near the end of the game is the last half minute before the hooter to end the second half. And it would only be important if Monaghan needed a point to equalise at that stage. When it happend it was not seen as significant.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,429 ✭✭✭Westernview

Im not so sure that qualifies as the end of the game. I also disagree that it was not significant. And I say that as a Mayo supporter.

Anyway it wont lead to the result changing.

Kildare's Niall Buckley was both athletic and a class footballer.

It has the same effect on the score, whenever it was in the game.

A similar controversy in round 2B would be an issue.

Meath beat Kerry by a few points to spare last year and before that game Meath weren't in great form, lost to Louth, lucky narrow win v Cork and drew with Roscommon. How many of the current injured players Kerry can get back is the main question and Kerry will anyone be surprised if Kerry draw Cavan or Kildare.

Im pretty sure if Hawkeye was in Clones it would have shown that attempted score was over the post and therefore not a point.

Very few come back better. Most come back injured and washed up. Look what it did to Tommy Walsh. At this stage GAA players conditioning and size is similar to Aussie rules, but the tackling leads to some serious injuries. Its a dog of a game.

Anyone know why Dublin eschewed media duties after the game? Hardly thay annoyed about Brennan still

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,248 ✭✭✭PressRun

It's absolutely galling. That being said, he will be absolutely wasted with this set up. He was one of the only players who showed leadership today when it was in the melting pot which for an 18 year old is humiliating for the older crowd in the squad. They would have lost the match without him. He is a terrific talent and deserves better than what's going on with Mayo football right now.

Kerry have as much chance of drawing Cavan or Kildare as any other team, so no nobody should be surprised if they draw them.

If the draws are fixed to suit Kerry, why did they draw Donegal in round 1 when that was the worst draw Kerry could have gotten?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 1,526 ✭✭✭Dogsdodogsstuff

Probably related to the Brennan ban. Technically we don’t have a head coach/manager so I see no issue with it.

Since McGuinness basically told reporters to go f**k themselves last week I imagine the passive expression of dissapointment from the dubs will not be overly critiqued.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,176 ✭✭✭robbiezero

They did. Meath seem to have put a lot into the league this year and are maybe running a bit empty. I thought they were dreadful against Cork with a spare man.

3 weeks should see a few more back for Kerry. Sean O Shea absolutely critical to their chances.

Now that round 1 is concluded is there anything we can assess about the merits of coming from the long grass vs the provincial final.

It is 4 each, hard to say anything definitive, but at the very least, the long grass route is not a disadvantage.

I know im from Cork and we get awful crowds from time time but the Dublin support has fallen off a cliff

Take away hill which was only third full few from Dublin at it.

And, when they are beaten,it'll be his fault, wait and see. I'm old enough to remember Ciaran playing, and it was the same. Opponents would double up on him and close I'm down somewhat, Mayo would lose because nobody else could step up,and the fans would scale him.

This kid needs to get to Aus ASAP.

Am I the only one who thinks that this standing up with ipad analysis on The Sunday Game is a load of bullshit ?

And there's nothing more boring than lads quoting percentages and kick out stats ...bank holiday fun !

Kerry have a bit of a Tyrone 2006 feel to them (Tyrone knocked out by Laois). As soon as some are back more are injured and some lads who do get back mightn't be at the pitch of things in time. It'll be one of their greatest All Irelands if they win it.

All Meaths home game(s) will be in Croke park, not an advantage if we drew Kerry

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,152 ✭✭✭CrabRevolution

Support for Dublin is bottoming out since fans are losing interest because of the team's bad performances, but they're coming off a low base of interest towards games other than those vs. the top 3 or 4 teams anyway as most of those games were ridiculously uncompetitive.

A generation had grown up in Dublin only remembering 1 championship loss in Leinster. A few years in the wilderness before building towards something would do them no harm….

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 24,768 ✭✭✭✭dxhound2005

It doesn't matter to the players from Dublin or anywhere else how many turn up to watch. They play a very high percentage of games with low numbers in attendance. And they give their best regardless of any lack of "atmosphere". I mention this in reference to previous posts from fans who insist on having a big crowd round them, otherwise they refuse to go to matches.

No I don't think anyone will be blaming him , kobys generational talent is about the only thing mayo supporters all agree on and the vast majority will wish him all the best in Australia.
