I still don't really get why signed this South African second row from Benetton though.

I guess you have your answer tonight

    Scott Wilson cannot scrum.

Zac Ward was pretty dreadful. Most where, but his performance was error after error.

no chance he will ever get international caps.

As great as this weekend has been, this game is genuinely shameful. Ultimately mismanaging our run in and targeting Leinster as the must win has cost us a champions cup place next season but I’m just disappointed by the effort today. Obviously it was a big ask against the no.2 French team but nobody played like they felt they belonged.

Very, very poor performance. We just didn’t show up.

If we did show up, we still would lose. Blame Murphy

Games are won on momentum and momentum ended with the Wards.

Bit harsh. Ulster have made huge strides forward this season. The last month or so has shown one thing though. The defence is awful. Leaking too many soft tries.

Missing Herring, Henderson and McCloskey tonight was huge. But overall there is progress. This is a relatively young team and it showed tonight.

Agreed on defence ...very poor indeed...no attack can offset that weak a vital element of the game

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 208 ✭✭longjohn200

Why is that harsh. Murphy fxxked us 2 seasons on the hop for the champions cup. He nailed his colours to the post that top 8 was the focus and then he changed that mid season?

    Chaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaampions Cup !!!

    (for Connacht)

the only not that good part is meeting Montpellier machine again or this
kind of (Toulouse/Bordeaux). But we want these games don't we? !

Well I'm also wondering whether we have enough cover on the wing. That isn't the first time Zac Ward has shat the bed in a big game.

Genuinely well done...but hardly the thread for it.

Very disappointing tonight from Ulster. To focus solely on the Challenge Cup and then deliver that performance is hugely disappointing. Save a few moments of magic from Izzy, Lowry and Balacoune that was an absolute disaster tonight. We were miles of Montpellier to the point were you have to question how we didn't see it coming. Hindsight tells us we focused on the wrong competition. Now we have no Champions Cup next season. Next year I suggest we throw the Challenge Cup and throw everything we have at the URC.

I still think we've progressed this year, but the end result isn't good enough. I standby this coaching team, but they, and the players, need to deliver next season.

Missing some of your best players (Henderson, Herring, Stockdale McCloskey) on the run in including last night. Ulster finished 14th in URC last season and scrapped into the R16 in Champions Cup as the bottom seed.

Balacoune was also missing for two months and McNabney gone all season. Given the pack as it stands, there is huge progress this season. Ulster don't have the necessary depth right now to cope with those injuries to key player. Especially when trying to compete on two fronts. A Lot of the issues are ones Murphy is fixing.

Building that depth takes time especially when doing so, largely from within. Its not like a La Rochelle or Bath who can go out and just sign players at will.

Devine is an upgrade on Shanahan in a key position. 10 and Front row are areas of concern still but everything is trending upwards.

There is also a new forwards coach coming who is well regarded. Think the time to truly judge Murphy is 12 months from now.

He was dreadful unfortunately, also happened when he played for Ireland ‘A’, he literally couldn’t catch simple passes that night.

    not good enough.

Murphy will be out of a job in 12 months time if he doesn’t improve things. He rotates far, far too often, always has. Montpelier has played a similar side for about 5 matches in a row, yet Murphy can’t makes about 6/7/8 changes every week.

Subbing off Henderson around 55/60 minutes every match also doesn’t help him.

Classless posting this in the Ulster thread, and I’m not even an Ulster supporter. You’d swear you lot won something the way you’re going on. Embarrassing.

Completely agree, there's a time and place and the day of a major loss isn't it. To the credit of the Ulster fans here they have largely ignored these posts I wouldn't have been as restrained were it the other way around.

Hard luck lads, remember being there is part of success, no-one else had the chance, you earned the right to be there and came out the wrong side. Onwards and upwards.

Disappointing that some gloat at another Irish team's loss. Ulster have had a good season, injuries ended their momentum

Believe me, they are not representative of the vast majority of Connacht fans.

I wished Ulster well last night but am pleased Connacht will play Heineken Cup next year.

Oh come on, I highly disagreed with Connacht fans there not supporting Connacht chance of qualification yesterday, in this room too. Full-stop

But it was NOT a provocation to Ulster fans. Really

Apologies if it was seen as such.

Would have supported Ulster in any other occasion against non-Irish team

MOD: Take the Connacht talk elsewhere

Commiserations Ulster, but you have to say Murphy got the last month of the season spectacularly wrong.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,044 ✭✭✭connachta

About Ulster, I don't get why you sacrificed Glasgow home game which was very winnable, even weakened, you were 1 last pass/catch to win it in the final minute.

Why did your coach did that knowing Montpellier will be so hard to beat..

25% chance of trophy (% from bookies) mattered more than the 70% chance of Euro Cup next year+Play-off?

    Huge gamble that he did….

Hindsight is great...im not defending Richie Murphy here......

But i think they believed they had a great chance at winning an actual trophy..........Montpellier didnt look like the force they really are vs the Dragons in the semi....Pau are 3rd in top14 but were stink in the challenge cup....The French can be very indifferent towards Europe....

Ulster were burnt badly in the end and it cost them everything....
