Remember the outrage on Munsterfans.com that Coombes wasn't picked at 8 for Ireland....Jaisus.

I don't think the TMO said they had reviewed everything, they said they couldn't find it. It sounded like they were initially looking at the wrong time, and then Piardi was rushing them once they got the right time from the AR. It was a bit of a cop out, imo. If it was a punch, or a bite, I don't think they'd have just moved on. Piardi made it clear he just wanted to get on with the game rather than take the time to be sure of whether there was footage or not. Terrible refereeing imo.

They can though whether they can do anything on the field of play if they find it eg 5 mins later I actually don’t know. Also I think the TMO needs to get back to his day job so to speak, so it needs to be left to the citing team.

He took at least 3 minutes for an event no one could even find. It was more than enough time.
If it was a claimed punch he would have waved it away and said the TMO will check in the background.

Until the TMO has confirmed he's looked at all the angles. You'd have longer stoppages for a injury. It was poorly handled, imo.

I’d consider the season Doak has had before getting provincial. My opinion is Casey is a good provincial player. Don’t think he’s got the physical gifts for international rugby unfortunately.

Went back to have a look, bad angle but looks like a back, small ish white guy. the spit is from a distance, 2 yards so should be caught on camera, I just cant see it on game shot. 13 I'm guessing.

All the angles of what ? They couldn’t even find the incident.

    Great covering by SOB

Yeah, super effort. He’s another who’s been very good tonight. He works his socks off every time you see him play; whatever he lacks in top tier talent he makes up in pure effort.

I think Gleeson had a good outing. Don’t think he’s has the power/dynamism of Bryn Ward in contact but great to see a bit of depth coming through behind the usual suspects.

Casey is immense when he's on form, but he's been fairly inconsistent this year (he even had some poor moments early on in this game). And when he's has a poor game, it tends to go very poorly. Doak has had a better season, imo, but if they're both on form, I'm not sure there's that much between them. Both are still a way of an in-form JGP.

Lions have kicked the ball away about 5 times in the last few minutes. Bizarre

Casey should be MotM. Gleeson was good but faded. All of O’Donoghue, O’Brien, O’Connell, Hodnett & Haley had good games, but Casey made the difference.

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 9,579 ✭✭✭fitz

The AR gave a match-time for it, but Piardi didn't give the TMO time after that to look. Casey claimed it had been up on the screen at some point, so there had to have been footage. "It's taking too long to get find the footage" seems a really poor reason to ignore someone spitting in another player's face, imo.

Casey is always fighting an uphill battle, given his physical limitations. He's been good tonight, kicking from hand in particular.

Great result from a Leinster fan pov. I really didn't fancy playing Connacht the weekend after the final. With their form I would expect them to turn us over so very happy to get the Lions.

Not a great result from a Connacht fan pov. Really fancied playing Leinster the weekend after the final.

Happy with that also. Reckon Connacht will give Glasgow a serious crack in 2 weeks. More than Lions or Ulster would have in my opinion.

Tough ask for Cardiff and Munster in South Africa and Leinster should have too much for Lions.

Spitter was Jonker 23, poor camera angle, can see him spit but not the hit.

Tough for Connacht to be 8th and Ulster have a chance to take their spot in the Champions Cup next year when they did not finish in the top 8. I have a soft spot for Connacht and the Lions, both of them are the step children of their respective Unions when it comes to spending and players they have available to them. Glad both made it in the top 8, although disappointed the Lions can play so much quicker but for some reason they keep slowing the game down by needless kicking.

So it's down to Ulster or Connacht for Europe?

    Pity.

The game stopped for ages. At some point you have to get on with it. The citing commissioner has all the time in the world.

I have a sneaking suspicion Connacht are gonna turn Glasgow over, given Glasgow's recent form and injuries. I really hope they do. I think they're going to be a bloody tough team to face next season.

Munster with a far more "Munster" performance tonight. Committed, dogged, proper intensity and effort, much more fight, and more leadership on display. Think the younger players need to be stuck with. Someone mentioned that Gleeson is gonna overtake Coombes, but for me he already has. O'Connell was excellent tonight too.

But if Connacht win the URC and Ulster win challenge cup - surely Connacht get a spot??

Relieved more than anything after that, but that was dogged and ballsy, which I always thought we could pull out at home under the circumstances. Tho the injuries to the named 23 were a worry.

3 points between 5 teams is kinda nuts, so feel sorry for Ulster missing out on the URC knock-outs, and also for whomever between them and Connacht miss out on the CC.

I've never really understood why opposition fans would log onto something like munsterfans.

I think they were happy to stay in SA in the next round. Looked a bit disinterested at times.

Allatooa... Should have been red carded, twice. Same shite he did for Leinster against LaR

Lions have to travel to Leinster, no?

Games stop for ages all the time. Certain things are worth getting to the bottom of. If Munster had lost, with Jonker having scored a try in the last minute, there'd be absolute uproar about deciding to leave it for the citing commissioner. Piardi caused the delay himself, imo, by sending the TMO to look at the wrong ruck. How he handled it contributed to the delay, then he got stroppy with the delay. Anyway, whatever. If you want to get on with the game in a scenario where there's an allegations of specific acts of foul play like biting, spitting, stamping, etc, I think the laws should make it possible to issue a red card a few minutes later when the angles have been found. If someone stamps on a player's face in the first 5 minutes of a game, or bites someone, or spits in someone's face, and the ref moves on because its taking too long for his taste to find the incident and present footage, that's the difference between 15 v 14 for 75 minutes, and 15 on 15. For all that people romanticise rugby values, this kind of thing, imo, is an example of how some refs values totally overindex on "keeping the game flowing".
