It's a lot easier to ramp up where spare capacity is available than it is to build new lines. Costs more up front and higher maintenance costs, but I think the capacity will be used by something.

That’s my thinking of it too. But some people can’t see beyond the here and now.

The same applies to many things in life. I need one cat5 cable for a camera. So I’m crawling through the loft space, I’m running 2. So the other one is there for future use should I need it.

But they're not a car company though. People are at pains to say this. They won't be doing the whole car thing. AI something spaceships etc.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 6,107 ✭✭✭...Ghost...

    I didn't says cars.

The space could easily be used for different lines….not necessarily for cars. Robots. Batteries. Parts. Rockets. Vacuum cleaners. Whatever.

    Ugh,

    Jay , Sus.

Is this kinda like how someone completely folded x ai and leased out all the compute to a competitor who they were absolutely slating publically a few weeks ago.

Guff mind games and more guf.

Tesla is a car company and it's one that needs direction.

Yes..its true that they have capacity to increase production but they will (understandably) build to satisfy current demand levels and that fluctuates for all sorts of reasons. Gigafactories are long term expensive investments strategically placed to serve various markets ..but fair to say that they are not operating at max efficiency levels …based on demand.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 35,672 ✭✭✭✭listermint

It's fluff, the 'gigafactories' were actually invisaged and sold to the market as battery production.

But we here **** all about that now at investor calls. Why's that? Giga me hole.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,116 ✭✭✭JOL1

Not interested in debating that…clearly the gigafactories are large production units to be used and configured to meet changing market conditions ….flexibility to respond to changing market conditions is a positive …

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 35,672 ✭✭✭✭listermint

It's not a debate. They were sold and setup as battery manufacturing. Tesla cornering the market in this and supplying and reducing their own costs.

It's not a debate. It's the reality. They didn't do that. Conventional term is misold.

Now your saying that 'they could be anything'. Building on previous mistruth. The reason you said I'm not debating that is because you're fully aware they were marketed as battery future factories...

What do you get from this thread? Genuinely wondering, because you always come across as angry, bitter and resentful in here. For your own health, you would do better to look the other way when you see the word Tesla.

It's a Tesla discussion, it seems you can't discuss Tesla unless your only fluffing Tesla is that your point? Genuinely, this is a genuine question? Do we get to discuss Tesla topics, all of them?

You asked why I post here, I actually don't think I'd feel the need to reply as often if there was any other posters legit talking normally about the brand. Thats the point of a forum.

What does the lack of new models mean for the company ?

What does the stall in innovation mean for me as an owner ?

What does all of these other side projects the owner is working on mean?

Will there be a car around in a few years if they are not actually a car company?

There is no real people conversation in here just a positive news twitter feed. That's why I post. I like proper discussion.

Sorry if that's bloody Irking you but it's the point of forums !!!

Anyway last model S rolled off the line, replacing it with robots or something.

You’re right that it’s a Tesla discussion, but have you not noticed that you’re the one “contributor” who often builds up to an emotional state where you declare everyone is against you and giving thanks to everyone else and then finally settling down and promising you’ll take note and do better.

Look, it’s starting again after only a couple of days since your last outpour. I clarified that I mentioned extra capacity for other lines and that Tesla make more than cars. Look at your snotty response to my benign comment.

    IMG_2672.jpeg

Does that look like the words of someone who is about to post in a civil, constructive manner?

I’m not playing games. I’m on record here slating Tesla for some of what they do, including their service centre experiences and FSD. So don’t be accusing me of fluffing just because I own their products. You’re constantly confusing yourself and responding to posters about things they haven’t said, so your mentality now is to fire into the crowd and hit whoever has spoken last. Not a great plan.

I’m suggesting (others have too) you avoid this subject, because it’s not doing you any good and your posting style here is aggressive and arrogant. I don’t see you post like that elsewhere, so I suggested you avoid Tesla chat. Maybe avoid any Musk related thread too. Not good for the mental health.

Of course you’re free to post here like anyone else, but that’s why I asked what you were getting from the thread. Your reply was to try turn the tables…even using the term “genuine question”, proving it wasn’t (imv).

Anyway. Happy Sunday. Lovely day today.

Agh wait, hang on a minute here.

What about you, last year, making wild childish claims that I tried to :

    1. get you banned from this forum.
    2. had separate accounts on this form (which I did report so a mod could cross check).

You never once retracted those claims so go pull the other one

You’re a hypocrite. You get called out and cry about it.

You’re not discussing anything. You’re posting your angered “opinions” and dismissing anyone that doesn’t agree with your “opinions”.

Again, from the outside, this is all I see

Perfectly proving my point. I’m not @unkel

I said no such things. I’m afraid you’re confused.

    Care to retract and apologise?

Oh I apologise. I genuinely thought that was you. Retracted .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 35,672 ✭✭✭✭listermint

I'm pretty sure you were trying to call a mod several times.

I don't recall saying you had several accounts btw. Perhaps this is reference to the likes appearing straight after you posted anything ?

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 42,579 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

Well you’re pretty wrong on all accounts. I called you out on it then. And you ignored it then too. You also called me a racist. Suppose you can’t recall that either.

So stop with the deflecting and stop being a hypocrite.

Some neck on you to call another poster to retract a statement!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 6,107 ✭✭✭...Ghost...

    Retraction appreciated. Apology accepted.

You should think about this though. @unkel is a very active poster. More active than I. I would think such a comment which he was pulled up on and apologised for so recently would make it nigh on impossible to confuse him with any other poster here. Yet you managed to do this right after I commented that you frequently confuse other posters and attach their comments unfairly. Makes for a very confusing conversation and I see you making these mistakes very often.

I’m not looking to get one up over you. Hell, I’m not exactly anonymous here either, so my posts are considered and I honestly think you need to take a step back from here. If you’re fighting everyone, even if you’re right, you’re going to lose every time.

FWIW, I agree with a decent portion of what you say. It’s the framing and absolutism and goal post moving that makes it harder to consider your POV.

Can't argue with the commentary at all.

I've a fairly off the cuff combative style. That I tend to reword given a moment of reflection.

I think I'd probably be best to consider more before hitting reply. It doesn't effect me, but when I'm rewording I'm doing because I think it's harsh on others. Not my best work.

To be fair, it's unlike me to ignore commentary directed at me. So that doesn't sound accurate at all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,314 ✭✭✭corcaigh07

I’m just looking in on this (no skin in the game), completely agree with Ghost on this, Tesla is obviously a triggering topic for you, Listermint.

A break from this forum or boards entirely might be best for your real life mental health.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 35,672 ✭✭✭✭listermint

Appreciate the commentary but I'd prefer if people steered away from mental health. Mines perfectly fine and it's invariably diminishing people who actually struggle with conditions related to it. Let that be the end of this line of language.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 42,579 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

    There you go again.
Not owning up to your childish wild claims.

Point proven. Hypocrite calling for another poster to retract a statement.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 35,672 ✭✭✭✭listermint

Gumbo, I haven't asked you to retract anything. I just said it's unlikely that i didn't respond to commentary you made directed at me. I would have guessed you'd agree with that? If you tag me, I'll respond. 🙋‍♂️

Haven't asked you to do anything.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 42,579 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

@John arse is the user you stated was my second account a year ago. He’s an active user on these forums and in no way connected to me. Again these comments were in the Tesla thread, your Achilles heal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 35,672 ✭✭✭✭listermint

Haven't seen John Arse in some time.

    Whats he saying ?

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 42,579 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

Still active. But don’t let that distract you from your real issues. Misdirection.

I see Tesla are supposedly approaching government about approval here.

Apparently it's the NSAI that has oversight here, not the Department of transport.
