Indiana GOP primaries are tonight. Indiana has been refusing to redistrict so far. Will Trump endorsements of redistricting supporters help or hurt them? Indiana has open primaries, so technically, Democrats can vote in the GOP primaries.

Possibly one thing that might derail Trump's desire to keep his grip on power could be the the members of the GOP elected who he has made realise that being "disloyal" to him is the better option in the long run. for the above route to the presidency to work, both the newly elected President and V/President would have to forgo the four-year term which they have seen can be taken for a ride to riches untold, as displayed by him.

Would both of them, and the disloyal GOP members, have enough trust in his word to play along with him in such a scenario?

Donald Trump also facing resistance from a state GOP party this time in South Carolina. The Governor Henry McMaster is refusing to call a special session to redistrict. SC is about 36% African American.

There's a cruise ship docked somewhere with people getting sick and dying. It's hantavirus. That comes from mice and rats droppings and urine. Then there's a sub of that virus I think Andesvirus - that's human to human transmission.

The ship is currently docked but the virus is not contained because one of the people who was ill went to an airport and died there. I don't know if she was on a plane. If she was coughing and sneezing in the airport or on a plane before she died, that's a lot of people in an airport being exposed. Incubation of the virus can be up to 8 weeks apparently.

This virus is already travelling the world but nobody knows it yet. Then there is the world cup this summer too which will have many more people travelling during incubation periods.

It's not a pandemic and I hope it won't be but there's potential for this to get out of hand.

There wouldn't be any harm in governments and public health departments to plan a public health and hygiene campaign to mitigate that virus if it to get worse.

If things in the Persian Gulf & Straits stay within the parameters Trump, Hegseth and Rubio hope for up to Sunday, he might be able to leave for China hopeful that he can bluster his way into some deal with President Xi Jinping.

The question is; will both Iran and China agree to give Trump a bit of peace over the next five days or see it worth their while to pressure him into doing something he now wants to avoid in the Gulf forcing him to stay at home in Washington.

Trump has successfully purged his party of dissenters, allied himself with several of the richest people in America, sown deep divisions among the electorate, cultivated a base of rabidly loyal followers and neutered the press via a mixture of intimidation and sensory overload. As despotic takeovers go, it's been a fine day's work but it also means there is no angle from which a push to remove him from power can come.

There are still some dissenters in some state parties like South Carolina and Indiana.

Does it matter? Are they even on Trump's radar or pose any threat to his control of the party? If they did and it came to a confrontation, I dont think they'd have enjoy a positive outcome...

The redistricting is decided at state level so yes it does matter.

Its looking like Trump may oust some of those opposed to redistricting, though some races are close. This is for the candidates in the state assembly election in November.

Update: Ohio results also coming in. We'll know whether or not Vivek Ramaswamy is the Republican gubernatorial nominee. Personally I think he will, but thats not necessarily the same as winning the gubernatorial race. But the gubernatorial and senatorial race are close this year. Ex Senator Sherrod Brown, who held the seat from 2007-2025 is running.

Update: So far 1 Trump target opposed to redistricting in indiana has been defeated. So far behind 60:40. This senator has served 18 years.

4 anti redistricting Republican state house members have lost theyr primaries so far, and 1 state senator. I think Trump backed primaries against 6 in the state house.

Best possible and most likely case is that he's going to die soon enough, and we'll see the personality cult collapse.

In a weird way I'm almost regretful that he didn't win in 2020. It would have been a horrible 4 years but it would be over now, we'd be out the other side, we'd know what the other side looks like, and we'd be dealing with it.

Worst thing would be for the orange paedo to die in office, his moron supporters all over the world will worship him forever more. Better he hangs on for another 10 years so everyone can clearly see( even the most dimwitted) how much of a mess he has made of the US and how far down he has taken them. As a bonus he'd have to watch his name taken down from every public institution as the trump name becomes a slur and as another bonus watch his family and friends in the admin be prosecuted for corruption. As a cherry on top he finally has to meet his Epstein victims in court and it becomes the Trump files rather than Epstein.

All these U turns are absolutely destroying the credibility of the US military as a force for projecting political power. Sure they can still drop loads of bombs and kill people, but in terms of achieving political objectives, I don't think I've ever seen such destruction of credibility since the Venezuela extraction of Maduro.

Not just that, but to think that one of the reasons for founding the US navy was stopping piracy on the high seas, and now to see them essentially becoming pirates themselves can't be great for morale, to say the least.

I went right through my Oxford Dictionary and I could not find even one noun, , verb or adjective to even remotely describe Trump’s performance amongst a group ok kids

What was the point of the Rubio and Hegseth press conference on project freedom, only for Trump to announce its suspension?

The ONLY redeeming feature of this press conference is the behaviour of the kids- and especially the three kids on his left. They were twisting and turning and scanning their environment to see if there was anything of interest in the room , etc, etc, etc. They give the apparently clear impression that they are oblivious to the Boss’s utterances

I'm super late to this thread but have to comment on this ridiculous AI video

People taking this on face value because it aligns with their narrative is exactly how MAGA was formed.

Where is an actual source on this? Or a photo of the page of the ranking which any journalist would take? Why is it an AI voice?

But the most bizarre part for me is the bit (just after 4mins in the vid) saying that Trump's name was sandwiched between a student named Troutman who finished 146th and a student named Tucker who finished in 148th

What a coincidence, it's almost like the list was in alphabetical order not class ranking...?

Because nobody knows what Trump is going to decide to do from one moment to the next, and that includes Trump.

There was an American reporter commenting on radio yesterday that the crews on those ships held up in the Strait of Hormuz are REALLY SUFFERING re isolation, and both their physical and mental health and she clearly agrees that this is happening. Trump was of the same opinion and he came up with this HUMANITARIAN idea of OPERATION FREEDOM.
BUT, is it not the case that the ship owners change crews every so often for holiday, etc, reasons. Normally happens when ships call to ports to upland /unload. I assume that most of these ships have helipads also

So can all these ships not be SERVICED from nearby ports by using helicopters, small speed boats , etc, re changing crews, , removing sick patients, providing food and other supplies, etc?

In conclusion, I do’nt buy the idea that ther is a ‘lot of suffering’ of these ships held up by the blockade. They are being inconvenienced alright. The only ones really suffering are populations living thousands of miles from the scene and of course the ship owners and the oil/ merchandise on board because of revenue loss for TOTALLY different reasons

Didn't Putin go through a phase of posting photos of himself shirtless on horseback or wrestling a bear?

I do understand where you're coming from, but the important distinction is that the Trump cult is a personality cult, and personality cults don't survive the death of their leaders. There is no succession, his narcissism and fragile ego won't allow that. The MAGAnauts are on borrowed time, Trump is old and extremely unhealthy, so the most critical item is how much damage he can do between now and when he dies. It's going to take a generation to unwind what he's already done, I'd say nobody (outside of his cult) wants to make that worse.

    #MEGA MAKE EUROPE GREAT AGAIN

Your very succinct and accurate depiction of Trumps political history to date does beg the question, how da fck was he able to do all of that? Where was the critical media, the judicial checks and balances etc etc

Regardless of what most people think of Trump, history will likely view this feat as quite an achievement in itself. It’s also shown how brittle democracy really is- it’s a huge lesson and one hopefully not to be repeated- but I can’t help but think future presidents will capitalise on how much he’s pushed the boundaries of the presidential role.

But the challenge is then to do good with all of that power - that takes time which he doesn’t have. He’s renamed airports and institutions after himself and erected statutes- all of the things a good decent dictator would do- but it’s only giving the illusion of power. It will be interesting to see where the cracks will form- will it be resignation after resignation of his closest advisers and cabinet? Hopefully the rats will start packing their bags and booking their departure dates after the mid-terms.
