Winning the lottery. Yes dear it is like winning 500k on the lottery. 800k if inside the M50.

This is a good topic to cover, but it ain't no Liveline. How are people supposed to call in?

And remember you need to earn €1.6m to buy the 800k house

Some kids would be better off if they were adopted at birth. I looked at the rte programme on care last night and honestly there are some people should never be allowed raise kids. There are many good couples out there who cannot adopt in Ireland and yet we have kids living in poor circumstances due to bad parents. These kids end up homeless or having to go through the care system. It really annoys me. These kids deserve better but will never do well because of waster parents.

"Waster parents" can be a bit simplistic.

Most of us posting here have had huge advantages in life purely through the luck of being born into relatively stable households.

We all like to think our achievements, financially, educationally, career wise are all down to our innate intelligence or hard work. In reality, the biggest factor is luck. Some of the most intelligent & hard working people end up in desperate situations.

That said, state agencies need to do an awful lot more about errant/absent fathers. The people ending up in dire situations are disproportionately women & children.

The scary thing is, it probably cheaper to provide them with a 800k house than pay for a few years in NGO provided accommodation.

Why is it becoming much more difficult to move people on from the homeless hostel compared to say 10 years ago Kieran?

This lad is talking too much sense for Kieran.

Thats exactly my point. These kids have no chance - they are going to grow up like their parents. I know it may seem harsh but if they were adopted by a good family their life would be completely different.

Kids raised by chaotic unresponsible parents rarely works out well.

drving home to listening to the radio about 6 years ago and there was a woman giving he sob story about not having a home, they were living in rented accommodation and the landlord was selling. As the story went on I realised I knew the woman as her son was in school with my own. Nearly all of her story was lies, she clamied her husband was unable to work due to a dissability (of course was complete bullshit, as he regularly was seen in his work clothes) She helself had a side hussle and worked for cash. She would also tell us not to pay for school trips for the kids as the school would feel bad and cover for them to ensure they went. There is a whole way to cheat the system, these people are professionals. Anyway, low and behold she ended up in a house which I couldn't dream of buying. She would have no issue bragging about it either. My own story of how we ended up getting a house was a 10 year sacrifice, and we fell over the line.

There is an element that are 'entitled' in society, I don't know how you fix or stop that, its only going to get worse. I really feel a bad recession is coming, the money tree will run out, what happens then?

Their 'Entitlements' will be in short supply. It is a term I first heard several years ago when in meetings with a couple of government departments. Entitlements this, Entitlements that, but no Endorsements for those who work for a living.

Ah has these no family at all. Surely some family member could give 1 bedroom in their home to them. As long as Im alive none of my kids will ever be homeless or living in a homeless hub or hotel. They can be squeezed in somewhere.
