The cost of the Greenway has gone from €4.5 million in 2014, to €72 million today, and that's not even the final price. Banana Republic is alive and well in Ireland in 2026.

CPOs to be closed by 3pm!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 3,879 ✭✭✭Dublin Calling

I am off. They will get their CPOs paid if the lodge a case in the High Court against the CoCo. I know someone who did it, immediate response and payment within a few months.

exactly ! In light of what the recent protests were about…..i.e. Government being unaccountable for massive overspending and wasting of tax payers money……….it's great to have this Kerry Greenway story exposed.

Its hard to believe anyone would be happy to joke about this level of overspending. These greenways end up costing multiple millions to construct and 6 months of the year are not being used due to appalling weather (here in South Kerry)!

The CPO's are a huge infringement of land owners rights too. As Morgan said these farmers live here, they farm this land, in dreadful weather, day in day out. tourists come and go and haven't a clue how things work on a farm (yet again!)

I think the saving grace of greenways is that they’re a “walk here” kind of path through the countryside and prevents or at least discourages idiot tourists deciding to just take off across random fields leaving gates open in their wake and being find and entitled when challenged by landowners. .

yeah that's true. I dont like Greenways much myself, everyone seems to be corralled into these very immaculate……. man made, fenced lanes, like mini motorways. I walked that part of the Greenway they're talking about over Christmas , it was packed, people walking along like herds of sheep, buggys, bikes ………it kind of reminded me of Covid when we all had to walk in the same 2 km! :-)

I cycled the other greenway from Tralee to Fenit on Monday, had a swim at Fenit then cycled back. I met 6 people in 10K and that was a sunny way. Nice but boring, they're just too constructed and man made for me…. but I suppose they suit a lot of people, those with kids and those who just want a simple safe walk. Luckily I live in Kerry so have my pick of wild places to walk (having grown up on a farm I close all gates and keep an eye on livestock)

Yes. Anyone living rural add familiar with the local area has a great choice of lively walks but fit the tourists it’s just handy to have a focal point and keeps then out of the way

that very good point was just reinforced by that very articulate farmer in Cork now. Interesting. So Greenways are massive loss makers!

She's great, far too sensible to be allowed stay on the line.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 3,879 ✭✭✭Dublin Calling

It will take 4 million walkers at 18 euro each to make back the 72 million.

The Healy Raes must be making a fortune off it.

This woman has absolutely smashed every point made, fair play. Could hear the poor host sighing, knowing she's right.

Back in the 80s someone in CIE made a fortune selling off land that was not meant to be sold off. All over the country it has been found that parts of old train lines were sold off, when it was though the state still owned them
