Using the Children's hospital or bike shelter as an excuse for everything is a terrible comparison…

If you want no taxes and no shortage of oil, head off to Dubai, Bahrain, Qatar or the like. Let me know how the farming contractors get on over there.

If you want to reduce taxes here, the subsidies which make farming viable here in the first place should be reduced too. Clearly they're being put to good use with all of the farming vehicles being used to block the country up.

This protest is stupid, wasting fuel in the middle of a fuel crisis, blocking the distribution of fuel, closing off access for emergency services etc. A protest can be had by all means, but this is just ridiculous at this point, and has clearly descended into trouble for the sake of trouble.

They're Not using fuel if they're parked up though. Using alot less than if they were driving, working , hauling etc

I think they have made their point and shown the mayhem they can cause. They should come out this evening and say to the government that they will lift the protest for 1 week, but if the government don't do something in a week they will be back out.

That way they will keep the goodwill of the people & put pressure on the government to act.

they’re the most obvious examples because of the sheer volume of money involved.

60c in every 1€ of diesel is gone in tax, the governments take has increased along side the increase in fuel price, not to mention green diesel price has seen a bigger % increase than white diesel

Why is that the case ? Price gouging ?

Eu support reduces the price of your food.
I would gladly let my farm support from the eu go if food prices came inline with what it costs to produce but that won’t happen

Farmers and contractors need newer/bigger tractors to get through the volume of work, they all financed over 5-7 years. Farmers margins are being squeezed so we have to cover more acres/ work with a smaller work force to maintain our margin

The diesel price is another nail in the coffin in pinching the farmers margin.
the hauliers are on a lot of fixed price contracts, there margin is getting pinched too

TBH whealan its acting the bollax. At this stage the government cannot be seen to giv into them. I jad words with a couple of them yesterday. Neither owned the vehicle they were driving.

At this stage people need to grow a pair of ball and stand up to them . Except I jave to house cattle today I be heading off with the jerp and box and parking outside one of these hauliers yard and protesting. What is hapowning is not a protest it a group of wealty.indivifuals paying employees to disrupt the country.

Last year the restirtants and chippers took whatever the givernment coukd have given in tax relief and ran off with it in the firm.of a vat rebate. This year the hauliers and agri contractors wantbto grab it.

You have a group stirring up racist activity as well.. By the look of it Trump cannot put the Genie back in the bottle Netanyahu is not going to let him. We will be out of Oil within month if the ceasefire fails to hold.

Very few here will remember the fuel shortages of the 1973 and 1979. With both of those you be quing half the day to get a couple euro of petrol. We could be heafing back to that

It appears that ATCP call was activated where critical infrastructure is being interefered with.

Experience counts when judging such things.

They have a God given right to protest. My heart agrees with them but my head sees the amateur way they are running this (its all on the fly and poorly thought out which suggests a lack of strong leadership and instead well intentioned folk being misled; and it will be interesting to see in due course whether Garda and Army intel uncover any foreign (US) influences driving this to impinge on the Government. Hoping there is no connection but this country us rife with interference by foreign operators and always has been.

calling out the army, this is going to get funny. as per usual the government havent a **** clue. something that could of been nipped in the bud on the first day with a simple meeting is now going to escalate massively. **** idiots the lot of them

You cant meet with a group that isnt organised and isnt a representative body. Its called a democracy. The whole thing is organised by social media. Meet them and what get nothing other than we're talking with actual representative bodies, then what?

Pack up and go home lads its over.

I hope they brought a few tanks of slurry to fire at the army. The French would do it.

Its an age thing isn't it. As is your phrasing. Try that at the local mart with some of the older boys who will think they're talking to a Queen of the land!

    "could of..."

    The phrase is "could have".

    Basic English.

Army has very limited recovery assets. If it gets heavy handed thrn it will turn nasty. Id say the protests will gain huge support.

This isn't a full army deployment as the garda commissioner has to admit the guards cannot control the situation for that to happen plus the president is the only one who can sign that off not the government.

ATCP is very limited and the army will be told to stand down if they hit any resistance.

No, it turns out you are. Not in touch with reality. And that's why ye are protesting like spoiled children instead of adults. No calibration, escalation, de-escalation. Just teenage young lads in young or old bodies. The runts of each family sent as they're no use at home.

Who's tapped in the head now, gossun??

Army being deployed which was always going happen if protesters blocked fuel depots.

I don’t see what they can do if 30-40 trucks are blocking the road . Remove 20 trucks only for 20 more to take there place . Surely the defence forces dont have means to remove large numbers of trucks or tractors

Still you, gossun. Paragraphs of drivel landing on no one.

bullshit, they meet with individuals all the time. harris and co met with Harvey's parents after the protests last year

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,919 ✭✭✭✭Reggie.

    ....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,746 ✭✭✭✭stephenjmcd

Thats a meeting with a specific family to discuss their case and what happened.

This is completely different and nowhere near comparable

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,919 ✭✭✭✭Reggie.

Have large wreckers (armoured recovery) but very limited. Maybe 4 nationwide?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,749 ✭✭✭An Ri rua

Re blocking buses on College Green, this is where they are amateur and, where most people support their firing shots over the bow of Govt, attacking the Irish people while saying you have a mandate from all of them is deluded and arrogant.

The Gsrdai and army should have bern told to dispese them early yeasterday when they started parking up and disrupting traffic everywhere

While thisvis a right to protest, there is no right to bring the country to a standstil, prevent people every where from foing about there business 19% of these lafs so called protesting do not own there vehicles. They are paid protesters. The government cannot and should not allow any organisation to continually disrupt the country using cars, busses or as we see here trucks and tractors.

If you want to protest you organise a march so we can see the numbers involved
