Also true. They are the countries Iran will hit hardest if America and Israel attack

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

I think you'd have to be pretty loopy to pursue nuclear weapon development while proclaiming the destruction of Israel/USA at this point. Iran have found out the hard way.

How can the EU be "foreign" interference since Hungary is an EU member state?

Also, isn't the US a foreign interferer?

Trump is only concerned with self aggrandisement as that's his only goal. But he's not a planner. He'll do something on Monday and by Tuesday will have moved onto something else.

Vance, on the other hand, is a planner and can happily play the long game.

Frankly, Trump, Vance and Miller all need to be taken out as they are an extreme danger to the planet as a whole.

why don’t they go after North Korea? This has nothing to do with America/Iran. The nations may not even proclaim destruction to another nation. It has become a new insurance, should foreign powers meddle

I don't think the Dow Jones Index will fare very well if Mad Don actually uses a nuclear weapon.

If France tried to interfere with Irish elections it would be foreign interference. Being in the EU is kinda irrelevant to that statement.

Fallout from a nuclear weapon lasts for hours, not a few minutes. After which there's lasting isotopes, like Cesium-137 or Strontium-90, which could theoretically be around in the destroyed area for years.

Any ground attacked by a nuclear weapon will be, effectively, rendered useless for up to a decade or more in real terms. This becomes more of a factor if the water table is affected and contaminants enter the soil.

Thank the lord for Lawrence O'Donnell maintaining some common sense and calling out Trump's insanity for what it is, instead of the rest of those journalists who act like all of this is normal.

This isn't, and never was, about nuclear weapons

Fair - I should have mentioned that my assumption that any potential attack would probably be an air detonation(as it was at Hiroshima) which increases the damage radius and limits the probability of a lasting fallout.

My point remains though - fallout would not be a consideration by the US/Israel in determining the use of one. The sheer destructive force and utter obliteration of millions should be enough to never even think about it.

Reported in the last 30 mins or so - Iranian media says all diplomatic channels and indirect talks with the U.S. have been frozen following Trump’s threats

Whether he does, or doesn't. give the command to Hegseth to begin the bombing mtonight, what he has done has harmed his popularity in the U.S. His ability to fail is more obvious each hour.

You can't go after a nation with nukes already and even if NK didn't have nukes China would directly help save them with boots on the ground. It hasn't just become an insurance Nuclear weapons always was.

You know that 2026 Trump must be absolutely crazy if he makes 2013 Trump look sane

Whether Trump TACOs this evening or not, all he's done is ensure continued hatred and animosity towards the US, radicalised groups and provided them with ample propaganda, and ensured US interference in the Middle East quite possibly for decades to come.

And the worst part is the f*cker probably won't live long enough himself to have to deal with any of the damage from it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,911 ✭✭✭McFly85

If there’s one thing that this whole fiasco has proven, is that this man is one of the worst negotiators on the planet. He simply cannot get any sort of deal unless he has an extreme amount of leverage and his only tactic is to threaten until his opponent capitulates.

It’s utterly incredible that this man has any sort of reputation as a deal maker.

2013 Trump only acted "sane" because he needed re-election. He would have acted like this last time if there was only one term presidencies.

North Korea has a useless tin pot military but already has nuclear weapons and also the border is very close to Seoul.

North Korea is also not involved in massive regional destabilization like Iran is and doesn't really present any strategic threat to the US or US interests.

It's just really a very impoverished and isolationist basket case country. Most South Koreans are content to just basically ignore its existence.

He doesn't have any leverage here, zero. He has backed himself into a corner, he escalates, he risks the GCC states infrastructure and in turn doing irreparable damage to the US/Global economy. If the GCC states infrastructure is attacked, they will also go on the offensive and the whole ME is at all out war. There is no way out here except go home.

Well France isn't Ireland,so is foreign and no different to the US and Hungary.

However if the EU tried to speak about French elections, and France being an EU member, it's different. France has a say (through representation and referenda) on the EU and it's governance while the EU provides member level regulations etc.

Even an air burst results in fallout lasting for days. The first 48 hours are considered the most critical. The MOST critical. Thereafter there is still a critical period. Any attacked area will become a wasteland effectively. Nobody would be willing to risk entering it.

Fallout from these types of weapons is a reality and a very dangerous one that results in lasting catastrophic effects, whether a ground burst or air burst is used. In terms of casualties, if you're not one of the 100's of 1000's immediately vaporised in the centre of attack, or blown to pieces in the second ring, or merely killed by the concussive effects in the outer rings, you'll be subject to ionising radiation effects which will rip apart the cellular structure of living beings. Assuming that one doesn't receive a lethal dosage that will kill you in the coming days/weeks, you are likely to suffer from physical damage resulting in increased chances of cancer in the 5 to 10 years. And if you don't succumb to a cancer there's a chance of passing on issues to your children.

In terms of considerations by an attacker, no I wouldn't imagine that the long term effects of using a nuclear weapon would be of much concern because these weapons are used to obliterate, not merely to destroy an enemy so you can take over their land.

It is, literally, unthinkable to any rational human being to contemplate using such horrific weaponry, especially in the conflict under discussion.

All of them that have oil or gas reserves would be best advised to ponder which of them the U.S. next sees as needing a regime change so the U.S. can stealing their oil and gas.

When I think of regimes destroying civilizations, I think of ISIS blowing up cultural sites. How times have changed.

If trump follows through on his warnings to wipe out civilianisation in Iran tonight, I wonder will any European countries ask US troops to leave their countries or will they continue to be subservient to a madman war criminal.
