That's good to hear, if 500 litres gets reasonably affordable I'll get it and that will see me into the winter easily.

Sadly the war mongerer buffoon opened his mouth and spouted a load of diarrhoea which has caused oil prices to shoot back up.

If reports Im reading are correct, Ireland imports around a third of its diesel and kerosene (jet fuel and home heating oil) from the UK. The Uk no longer refines these products (only petrol).

The last tanker carrying kerosene is expected to arrive today in the UK.

An estimated 5 tankers with crude oil and refined diesel are currently making their way and expected to arrive over the course of next week.

So from mid-April onward, Ireland will be entirely reliant on North Sea (Norway/UK) and US for imports, along with most other countries in Europe. There may be the odd delivery with tankers that are being filled from the Saudi pipeline, but otherwise thats it.

As Skys economist Ed Conway puts it, the UK (and by implication wider Europe) is facing an energy cliff edge at this time, as supply will be at least 10-15% below actual daily consumption. Doesnt sound like much, but there simply wont be enough to go around.

At that point its either rely on the market to control demand through sky high prices or else price controls managed by rationing. Not good either way.

Hopefully it will be temporary and the orange man will TACO…..if not, buckle-up.

Government information campaign on fuel conservation on the way.

The below is a general 'signature' and not part of any post:

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

Public transport user? If you're sick of phantom ghost services on the 'official' RTI sources, check bustimes.org for actual 'real' RTI, if it's on their map it actually exists.

Do you remember when they wheeled out the Irish central bank boss to reassure markets during the 08 credit crisis

    Deja vue

I do. Nothing like a senior minister or official saying things are fine to cause panic.

RTE news : Do allegations of fuel price gouging stack up?

    http://www.rte.ie/news/clarity/2026/0404/1566651-clarity-fuel-prices/

Seems to suggest increases at pumps broadly in line with wholesale increases where Diesel and Petrol are concerned, but not where kerosene is concerned

No law against "gouging" in a free market economy. It may have made the taoiseach popular within certain sections in society for a while but it's not really helpful to anyone long-term. Mac Partland gone very quiet which is no harm.

Kerosene is similar to Jetfuel which has risen a little more than diesel - but it also has no duty, so the percentage increase will be higher as duty stays static.

EG, Diesel has jumped about 65c a litre in terms of refinery prices. (excl vat)

So apply that to kero and its 65c + 13.5% vat. 74c/litre

Price for 1000L of Kero in late Feb was €970 (source cheapestoil.ie) current average is €1730.

So ex vat, ex duty, ex carbon price has risen by almost the exact same as diesel - maybe 2-3 c more
