WiFi calling fail on GoMo.

I've just bought myself a Motorola G56 5G. One motivation was to get Wifi calling working. I live in an old cottage with thick stone walls and a tin roof and the phone signal inside is dire. I know the phone can do Wifi calling because I have a UK giffgaff eSIm in it which I've successfully used over Wifi in the UK (giffgaff doesn't support wifi roaming, so it doesn't work here.)

I've just created a GoMo account and ported my number from 48. Everything is working great except Wifi calling. When I go to "SIMS and mobile network" and tap through the giffgaff SIM I get the usual menu with 4G calling and roaming and all the other stuff. There's a section in the menu for "Calling" and that has an option to enable WiFi calling. Doing the same on the GoMo SIM gets me the same menu, but the "Calling" section and the WiFi calling option is missing.

GoMo support have failed to explain this, but there's some suspicion that the problem may be because the phone is from the UK.

What I'm looking for is examples of Moto G56 phones on GoMo doing WiFi calling, to give me some idea if it's even possible. Can anyone help?

You could try resetting the network settings. Make sure you have WiFi passwords handy if you need to re-enter them. Plus you'll have to pair Bluetooth devices again.

    Something like

    Settings > System > Reset options > Reset Wi-Fi, mobile & Bluetooth.

And then reboot. See if wifi calling option is available.

    Another thing to try.

Open your phone app dialer, go to keypad and paste in this code

    *#*#869434#*#*

See if a message appears about wifi calling. And then check the menu again for wifi calling option. (Try a reboot of not there)

After that I'm not sure. Perhaps others may have some suggestions for you.

I got a motorola last Nov and the same thing with clear, there was no menu item for wifi calling or VOLTE. After some research, apparently motorola don't let you use certain features unless the operator and motorola have an agreement. I found a solution that pixel users had to use (google shizuku) and it unlocks these features. However I do find my moto just drops signal and I have to turn off and back on the SIM card to get it to work again. (this happened both before and after my wifi calling fix)

Sounds like you’ve already confirmed the hardware is fine since Wi‑Fi calling works on the giffgaff eSIM, so this really points to GoMo/Motorola not enabling the feature for that specific carrier profile. Sadly, when the “Calling / Wi‑Fi calling” toggle is missing on the GoMo line, it usually means it’s blocked at software level, not just a settings glitch.

On my side, I’ve been digging through Elegant Properties’ telecom content online, where they explain how some networks tightly control advanced features like VoLTE and Wi‑Fi calling based on whitelisted devices and firmware. Their breakdown of SIM registration and network capabilities shows how a SIM can work fine for data and calls but still have certain options disabled in the menu if the carrier–OEM combo isn’t officially supported. That’s why testing your GoMo SIM in another known‑good Wi‑Fi‑calling phone is often the only way to tell if it’s an account issue or just Motorola’s restrictions on that G56.
