Worked with a contractor years ago, self propelled drank 14 gallons an hour, 2litres per bale seems high.

A fusion baler needs to be attached to an 85kW tractor. Assuming its going full tilt thats 20l/hr and a medium windrows of 30 bales per hour. so 0.67l/bale

30 bales per hour and 20l/hour is 0.67l/bale surely? I haven’t a notion how much per bale but just wondering if I’m missing something with your calculations?

Of course for a contractor the cost isn’t just the time spent in your field. They have the whole lifetime of the equipment to cover the cost of and the whole ownership and maintenance of equipment will be more expensive now as a result of this war. Everything from tyres, to grease will increase 20-25%, then the lad behind the wheel will need more wages because his life just got more expensive.
ECB talk of increased interest rates to calm inflation will surely increase equipment repayments etc. I saw talk of 1% increase by end of year which will surely be passed on quickly by institutions.

Donny is saying another 2-3 weeks so no immediate end to this means we’re just at the thin edge of the effects.

I think we should look at the covid era. Remember the 5km from home rule, work from home, etc.

Know a lad and he was a "critical operator" or something. Had a letter saying he was required to travel due to his work on national infrastructure. So he and his colleagues could go anywhere. Ill ne gwtting a letter fromnhim as a subbie because i have to drive for my work. I think something like that could emerge if there is a shortage, as rationing would lead to a panic buying situation. A lot of people are just getting by keeping a quarter of a tank in the car but if rationing came in then every tank is full.

There is a lot less traffic on the road.

Realistically it's the Easter break for schools that has the traffic down.

Was reading over lunch there that Aisan countries have outbid Europe for tankers of oil which were then re routed while in transit to Europe so some of the supplies that were thought to be arriving now will not.

Diesel supply is what is going to be the most critical in a few weeks.

You can have as many EVs as you want its diesel that moves goods around and keeps the economy (and society) going. This might improve from June onwards but April and May look like a serious choke-point for Europe in particular. The EU's fuel policy and the lack of any backup or fuel independence is the reason for this mess.

jezz idk where those prices are coming from, I paid 1.70 and from what I can see its gone to 1.75 - 1.80 now. I was quoted 1.60 but when it came to delivery it had gone up, and the driver basically told me that if I didn't take it he had other customers for it. So I think there is some merit in that there is a touch of panic buying going on which is putting pressure on supplies.

But I'm happy to have it got now, I think we are going to see rationing in the new few weeks. Zelenskiy is wrecking the Russian Oil depos he has rack done, the middle east is getting worse by the day, Trump is a madman, he wants to send the place back to the stone age

Mowing with a 150 hp tractor and 10ft conditioner mower was always around a gallon an acre. 10 bales to the acre , 450ml per bale .

And yes i do know non conditioner mowers will burn less.

Tedding raking and drawing would be a lot less but would add up too

better make sure the tanks are well secured as well. U know full well the bucks are planning how to rob value out of this

20 cent a litre vat on green diseal priced at 1.709 all in, any sane goverment would of capped the vat at one euro on green diseal and no vat charageable above the euro, its actually a windfall energy tax for Simon on the agri-sector
