    Hi

I have an internet phone that I need to move around.

I need the phone to have the same external IP address.

I'm thinking the best solution is a vpn account and portable router.

Could anyone recommend a vpn supplier and / or router.

    Thanks for any help.

Does it definitely need a static IP address or would dynamic DNS be a solution?

    Need more details:

Same externally address as what? A home internet router? Does this internet phone support any third party app?

If so you could install Tailscale on compatible home router or always on home device like laptop or Apple TV. Set this device as an exit node & then have the Tailscale client on the internet phone so it will have the same external or WAN IP address.

Surely it logs into SIP server and the static IP on the specific phone is not needed? It's a significant security risk as the phone is unlikely to have a comprehensive firewall…?

What brand and model is it?

The ip doesn't need to be the same as anything else, it just has to stay the same and not change.

I'm trying to help a friend set this up.

They've a work from home position but on occasion they need to work from a different building in a different county.

The phone links in to the organisations system but it's through their ext ip address.

If they changed the ip once and the organisation applied the new one, it wouldn't matter where my friend is.

I thought if he got one of those portable routers and a vpn, that might work.

Sorry edited to add, he's not sure of the set up but knows the ip can't keep changing.

There's a stark difference between and static IP on a private network (ie, on a house WiFi) and an external static IP. I'm guessing that they need the former as they need to setup port-fowarding and IP filtering on the WiFi router.

Best get more info and work from there, as nobody would advise trying to put a device on the Internet with a static IP since about 1997... 🤔😆

    ok, thanks.

No it's not the house wifi or house modem that's set up.
