I see cartow.ie trucks around. Look very professional.

Slampi is based out of Urlingford and would probably get it done the cheapest.

    You'll find him on FB.

I got two quotes of over 400 euro from 2 other places this morning, one quoted me just under 500! I didn't know they were charging this kind of money for a 2 hour tow to Dublin.. Maybe I could catch someone en route to Dublin so could pick it up on the way.

You are paying for them to get up to Dublin and the time to get back as in all likelihood there won't be much demand to tow something from Dublin. All in, it will be four to five hours, depending on traffic.

I emailed those companies listed above and I will see what they quote me.

I paid €130 + VAT for a 10km round trip and also paid €180 + VAT for a 30km round trip. Minimum charge is at least €120 these days and then mileage gets added on top. Considering it's a 350km round trip €400 is reasonable.

And now with diesel prices sky high they'd be lucky to get a days wage from it.

That's ok. The trucks can cost up to 400k! 😳

If you ask a local garage who they use. Years ago I got a car brought from limerick to Dublin for 200 euro. It was brought on a massive car transporter and they needed room to load and unload both ends. A local garage arranged it. It took a week or two to be brought. If you are in no hurry you can get discounts if they are going nearby with other vehicles.

New MAN TGX 33.510 recovery truck around €345,000 + VAT. The Renault ones can be cheaper and the lighter ones too, new MAN TGM 18.340 recovery truck listed at €210,000 + VAT.

But like everything, the sky's the limit with what you want to spend!

That's a recovery truck for HGV's and buses not cars.

    Eirtrans.

They brought a Sprinter van from Cork to Meath a few years ago for €250 plus VAT.

Probably gone up a bit now but they were the cheapest at the time.

    Camel-Tow might squeeze you in

This guy from Libya is cheap. Brought my yoke about 1km for around €50 (haggled down). Not the most professional setup, and it'd be touch n go if your yoke stays on the back of his, or if his doesn't break down too. But it'd be an adventure. YOLO.

Try Stephen Prestige Car Transport 086 324 2430, Might not be the cheapest but your car will be well looked after and no messing about.

Anyone on here with a trailer that could do it ?

I don’t think you’ll get much better than €400. I had something towed from W Cork to Cork City for €250. €400 for that amount of time and fuel and profit on top isn’t bad at all.

Try facebook pages the likes of empty return loads ireland.

You will get prices but 400 isnt the worst.

    Fuel alone could be 100

Portroe to 'Dublin' Redcow is 164km/103miles each way.

Now assume someone with say a 5T truck does it, Assume 20mpg for 206miles.

Your quoted €400, 23% VAT is €92, Now minus €100ish diesel, Tolls are €5.90 each way leaves €196.

    5 hours 'labour' at €15 is €75.

Say the 'profit' is €120, That covers the truck cost, wear and tear, maintanence, equipment, Insurance and 'employee' costs like PRSI, Pension etc....

You may be lucky and find someone, Whose empty going to Dublin and fancies cash but €400 is a realistic quote.

Or maybe you can find Johnny who has a Land Cruiser with loads of flashy strobe lights and his grandfathers home made trailer with Berlingo axles to do it for €50 and a Supermacs?

And you left out; no insurance.

Commercial policies only cover own goods in connection with own business to be transported in/on the trailer. A landscaper I know has his track-car down as a 'grass knocking down device' so he can tow it to a job near Mondello.

    🤣 but that doesn’t look like a Greystones number…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 227 ✭✭Dex Dexta

Sorry, that should read 'north Wicklow number' 🤔

Id say your estimates are on the low side.

Most likely have 5 hours driving up to dublin and back. Then depending on where it is in dublin and the traffic

A good half hour to load and strap down. Especially since its a parts car that will probably need to be winched. Similar to unload.

Then add whatever distance they are from their yard x2.

Wages at 15 an hour id hope is optimistic. 14.15 is minimum wage.
