Hiryat Shemona in the north of Israel reported to be under Hezbollah control. A pretty startling development. Interesting to see if they can hold it. With the IDF reported to be demoralised and exhausted it will be interesting to see if Hezbollah push deeper into Israel.

If Iran were interested in putting boots on the ground Lebanon would be the logical entry point to Israel. It might be the only way to speed up the stopping of Israeli attacks on Iran. Between the ongoing genocide in Gaza and the passing of the law by the Knesset giving them the right to kill any Palestinian they deem a terrorist the Israeli regime is revealing its ugly face to the world more and more as time goes on. The sooner it falls the better.

If the EU had any balls they would have put a stop to Israel a long time ago. Instead of having Greta Thunberg having to highlight the Palestinians plight.

The Germans and Brits are as infested with zionist money as the Yanks are. Too busy keeping the yanks happy and allowing them to do as they please for 80 years as well.

I'm not talking about Palestinians in gaza, or the west banks, but those who grew up as Israeli citizens.

The 'impunity' thing explains why they have gone off the rails since 2023. They are so used to the West backing them that they have probably moved further to the right than the National Socialists in the 1930s (even the Nazis wouldn't have been so open and explicit about their racism and bigotry).

Goodness knows where this is heading. South Africa was able to transform itself as a society in the 1990s and become respectable again, but the Israelis have gone so far down the rabbit hole of racism, violence and war mongering.

exactly and israel looking at drafting up to 400,000 reservists they are far from demoralised

apparently UAE are the most hawkish of gulf states at the moment pushing for a US invasion of Iran

The Netanyahu regime uses war to keep him out of prison in his corruption trial.

    www.gov.uk/government/news/joint-statement-on-israels-death-penalty-bill-29-march-2026

We, the Foreign Ministers of Germany, France, Italy and the United Kingdom, express our deep concern about a bill that would significantly expand the possibilities to impose the death penalty in Israel and that could be voted into law next week. We are particularly worried about the de facto discriminatory character of the bill. The adoption of this bill would risk undermining Israel’s commitments with regards to democratic principles.

The death penalty is an inhumane and degrading form of punishment without any deterring effect. This is why we oppose the death penalty, whatever the circumstances around the world. The rejection of the death penalty is a fundamental value that unites us.

We urge the Israeli decision makers in Knesset and Government to abandon these plans.

I am sick of the UK and the EU. "deep concern" "particularly worried" "urge". These letters are the laughing stock of international politics. Trump or Netanyahu or Putin look at them and they smirk and laugh at how pathetic they are. They are worse than saying nothing at all.

Israel should be obliterated from global politics. They should be treated like South Africa was during apartheid, but all they get is corporate speak letters of concern from 500 million people. A couple of years ago, I would have said any Irish person had more in common with any European than an American but I don't really believe it any more. Why is von der Leyen our voice when her country supports genocide after enacting its own less than a century ago.

Ireland is barely any better supporting these countries for the economy. We're all just hypocrites. Until Israel is sanctioned properly, any notion of Europe or America being "the goodies" is a lie. How can 27 countries come together and be part of a union and then collectively support the most viscerally disgusting nation of people on the planet. For it to work long-term, there has to be a moral code and damn the economic consequences.

Jesus earlier I posted EU leaders would say “deep concern” and that would be it. Sadly right. Beyond pathetic.

Trump willing to end Iran war without reopening Strait of Hormuz - report

Donald Trump has told aides he would be willing to end the US military campaign against Iran even if the Strait of Hormuz remains largely closed, according to the Wall Street Journal citing White House officials.

The reports claims that Trump has decided that the US should achieve its primary goals of reducing Iran's navy and its missile stocks and wind down current hostilities while putting pressure on Tehran to resume the free flow of trade through the strait.

It adds that Trump and his aides "assessed that a mission to pry open the chokepoint would push the conflict beyond his timeline of four to six weeks".

He has done Russia a huge favour by starting this war. It has increased the price of a barrell of oil by $50.

Polls on support for the war. Harvard-Harris is the only one that has majority support.

I’ve listened to a video recording by PRCS paramedic Riifat Radwan - he kept filming the massacre. Riifat’s recovered mobile phone contradicted the false lies of IDF, who said the ambulances had their lights off.

Riifat’s poignant last message to his beloved mother: “Forgive me mother because I chose this way, the way of helping people.” He then says: “Accept my martyrdom, God, and forgive me.” Until his last breath, Riifat recites the shahada (declaration of Faith), which Muslims say when they are facing certain death. He was cold-bloodedly executed by IDF.

IAEA says that the heavy water plant at Khondab is severely damaged and out of action.

A $1bn US AWAC aircraft was destroyed by an Iranian strike at Prince Sultan (Saudi Arabia) airbase and 12 injured, 2 seriously.

The AWACs are flying radar and airborne command centres. Also there were reportedly 6 refuelling aircraft (Stratotankers) at the base. It is claimed that 3 out of 6 Stratotankers were destroyed.

In a series of one minute video clips Clare Daly dissected President Ursula von der Leyen’s repugnant message of congratulations to Israel.

JEWISH VOICE OF LIBERATION (JVL) ENDORSES CLARE DALY’S CRITIQUE OF PRESIDENT URSULA VON DER LEYEN'S MESSAGE:
‘European Commission President’s unctuous support for Israel called out by MEP Clare Daly’
    Tue 23 May 2023
    https://www.jewishvoiceforlabour.org.uk/article/european-commission-presidents-unctuous-support-for-israel-called-out-by-mep-clare-daly/?comment_received=1

    JVL Introduction:
“On the 75th anniversary of what Israel calls Independence Day and what for Palestinians marks the Nakba, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen published a short sycophantic video of congratulations.

It contained a series of appalling distortions as Irish MEP Clare Daly pointed out in a series of short, critical videos. Each one takes an extract from von der Leyen’s ingratiating message and explains the untruths and misrepresentations on which it was based.

Clare Daly’s 5 (five) one minute video clips are embedded herein:
‘German EU chief downplays Holocaust while spouting “infamous Zionist lie”

    , 19 May 2023
    https://electronicintifada.net/blogs/ali-abunimah/german-eu-chief-downplays-holocaust-while-spouting-infamous-zionist-lie

    Here’s 3/5: #Nakba
[Zionist] Ursula von der Leyen: “75 years of dynamism, ingenuity and groundbreaking innovations, you have literally made the desert bloom.”

Starry: NB: The previous year Ursula was awarded an honorary doctorate from Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (June 2022). She gave a lengthy acceptance speech at the ceremony. "He [Ben-Gurion] always spoke about ‘the duty to make the desert bloom'. And that is exactly what you have done ever since. .... You have with all that, quite literally, made the desert bloom."

Ursula has called for negotiations between US and Iran, but savvy politicians know there are backchannels.

Sanctions: It’s about turning the political tide. Israel losing money will impact businesses.

Just shows that people and countries can change, look at this guys history and now he is offering to reopen the arabian to Mediterranean oil pipeline bypassing Israel.

    IMG_0262.jpeg

Now that would be funny, especially if they take the whole trade route with it. He also talked about Syrian refugees returning home which is something Ireland should follow up on.

Silly auld Tankie hag, she supports one facilitator nation of terrorism & murder in the Middle East whilst criticising another nation that does does the exact same.

At the same time supporting the terrorist Putin & his murdering genocidal invasion of Ukraine, even denying the right of of that nation to defend itself & it's people & arm itself to liberate it's national, internationally recognised territories.

One could equally say that about Ursula Von der Leyen.
She condemns one illegal invasion but not another.
Calls out one genocide but not another.
Supports resistance to one occupation but not another.

Do people still take Daly serious ?

She has zero credibility left. You'd also expect her to understand how the EU works given her harping on about how Von Der Leyden is 'not democratically elected'.

Rubio lays out the administrations clear objectives for this conflict and they will be completed in weeks not months.

I think i will stick with the tried and tested formula of not believing a word that comes out of these peoples mouths.

So today's the day somebody on polymarket bet that US ground forces would land on Iranian soil.

I'd imagine they'll wait for darkness and if true we should start hearing reports of this tonight.

Trump could leave the problem of the Strait for the rest of the world to sort out. Both he and Rubio seem to be pleased that it would affect Europe and Asia more seriously than the US.

Allegations, denied by Hegseth, that his broker wanted to buy a defend fund before the war in Iran.

I’ve no idea who you are on about but UvdL is not democratically elected - no matter how it’s spun or whatever horrible person says it.

Fascinating how the thread has turned into far left Sinn Fein/Clare Daly style EU bashing. Bravo for expertly redirecting anger at Israel against our own democratic bodies and representatives, skilfully done,

EU parliament and council and commission represent the 450 million people in the EU (which is more than can be said of the Iranian regime) and have been democratically elected directly or indirectly (unlike Iranian system)

To those moaning about the EU what alternative do you propose instead?

Is democracy just democracy when someone you support democratically elected?

Sure listen you know what old Irish story … the Tuatha De Danann on their arrival to Ireland burnt their boats. How many israelis have dual citizenship?

A lot of USA/Israeli people say they have no intention of going back. So why keep the passport? Why does Israel even allow dual citizenship? spain doesnt. The usa is talking about not allowing it for anyone.

    Imo its interesting.
