I'm just curious to see does anyone else remember watching this as none of my friends seem to so I'm guessing it wasn't shown on RTE. Any ideas on the station?

Basically it was about these kids who found a portal through to another dimension with completely different technology where there was a war going on I think, there was definately a sequel set in China/Japan also.

Just found the opening on youtube if anyone is interested-

Yeeeeah! Was talking to an Aussie guy in pub about this show the other week(of a similar age to myself), he didn't have a clue what it was.

This, Round the Twist, and The Girl From Tomorrow, all classic kids tv. :D

EDIT: Had to be Network 2 because we didn't have 'de channels' in my house.

The writers of Spellbinder also wrote The Girl From Tomorrow, which is hopefully returning in book form. Apparently if it succeeds there could also be a new Spellbinder story at some point.

If you liked The Girl From Tomorrow, original cast members have returned nearly 35 years later to voice promos for the new sequel book campaign. You can see them at the link.

It was on network 2, on the Den. I well remember it. I even watched it again about a decade ago, it's all up on YouTube. Surprisingly good show. It was from a time RTE got a number of Australian teen sci-fi shows. Spellbinder, the girl from tomorrow, ocean girl, the tribe.

It was definitely on the Den on Network 2. I remember it well.

The technology in the other world was based on magnets. It looked sort of medieval but they also had these hover craft machines.

The Girl from Tomorrow I hated, but Ocean Girl I remember well if you know what I mean?

Theres an Irish connection also - the actor who played Alex is Brian Rooney. He is originally from Belfast. His family moved to Aus sometime around 1980 when he was a child.

They had this ability to harness static electricity. That's why Spellbinder suits had all this copper wiring on the outside. It also gave them a very high social class. It was a very well thought out show for it's time.
