Crazy bringing these games up to Croke Park. The place is like a morgue. There was more atmosphere during Covid.

Would expect Meath and Kerry to win well today. Kerry won't be beaten for the rest of the year.

Louth wont be so fussed looking at Meath here.

maurice shanley causing all sorts of problems to meath , eoin fryane doesn't look himself either since the injury , i wouldnt write meath off yet

poor atmosphere. Ben a while since I heard so many players shouting. Thought Meath would have brought a crowd. Funny nearly sounded like more Cork supporters in Omagh last week. Such are issues with cavernous Venue like CP. Still thought better atmosphere last night

Good first half from Cork, they'll be happy enough with their first half but should be a goal further ahead. 3 early two pointers set them up but once Cork settled and rattled over 5 scores in a row, they are well worth their lead. Sherlock doesn't need a lot of time on the ball, he shoots very early and is again banging them over the bar.

Should be a close enough second half too.

Better atmosphere last night than today Sao far. What difference does losing the hour make? Don’t think that many people getting up for 8 o clock mass. We’ve already had the 2 week break between league and championship argument hashed out

In the past I’ve had tiny accas on the 4 finals being draws, could happen this year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,638 ✭✭✭harpsman

Chris Og Jones just keeps scoring the same goal. Note to keepers- he’s going to dummy and roll it in at the near post

Conlon for Meath could end up being MOTM yet despite only coming on as a sub .
He might have won them the game

    Oh hold on Cork goal

    Not over yet

Meath were effectively down to 14 for that Cork goal.

Croke park terrible atmosphere below 30k. Most Meath matches in Croke park this year were 12-15k ish.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

Cork running down their own clock

    Mad stuff

Having the buzzer go bang on at full time does kill some of the excitement. Preferred it last year when you had a chance of one last attack

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 133 ✭✭Torrey

Brain dead stuff from Cork. I honestly think football is worse with the new rules.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,239 ✭✭✭HBC08

Why did they change the last play after the hooter rule?

For instance Meath had a kick out with 10 seconds left, the game is over.Under last years rule Cork could have won the kick out and had a chance to work a two pointer to draw it.Way more exciting and cuts out some of the BS of running down the clock.

It was crazy to change from last year to what we have now.

That new hooter rule is pure bollix. Don't know how they managed to make a balls of it but they have. Kills any excitement at the finish and literally encourages cynicism. Don't blame Meath, they gamed it exactly as they should, but there are no consequences for teams who want to simply cynically foul at the death to waste time and slow down the opposing team chasing a score.

Division 4,3 finals last night and again today in Division 2 final has showed the end of games are a bit of a farce with the hooter.

GAA HQ if they have common sense with bin the hooter before the championship starts and leave timekeeping to refs, we got on fine during the club championship without any hooter.

Agreed regarding the hooter. Have to play fair play Meath just straight up admitting all these matches in croker is proving advantageous.

Bit of an oversimplification. Leaving out important nuance there. Croke Park advantage for good sides fast play wide pitch.. And conversely a disadvantage for poor sides. It has shown this year where Dublin struggled in CP and Meath excelled.

I think the hooter takes away some of the work for the ref. Makes time keeping more accurate. Works well ladies football etc. Everyone knows where they stand. No “how long is left?” Etc. Up to players to get used to it.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

I think most of us here are agree on the hooter. I thought it was an exciting element when games came down to the last kick of the game. It seems the procedure anoraks got their way as some felt it wasnt a good look having the players decide the end of a game as opposed to referees and clock watchers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,239 ✭✭✭HBC08

The hooter was fine last year with the team in possession allowed to finish the play.

I really don't understand why they changed it to the mess it is now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,742 ✭✭✭✭gormdubhgorm

But this way it can be dramatic if the players on the ball get the timing correct. Crowd watching the clock etc It’s grand. If teams like Dublin or Cork want to waste their own time not hurrying up and taking a shot - wasting their own time. That’s on them.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

Yeah hooter goes, one last play. The excitement would be class. If ball goes out of play before hooter all it to be kicked back in. We beat Galway with that rule last year and I didn't like it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,065 ✭✭✭DJIMI TRARORE

That was weird, during the minutes silence the stadium announcement

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,263 ✭✭✭Westernview

Perhaps, but I can see some controversies arising. Arguments about whether the ball is over the bar or in the net before the hooter goes. Is it up to the referee and umpires now to judge what happened?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 2,338 ✭✭✭ollaetta

It is a mess for sure. Hurling would be the game I watch most but viewing the two game last night and the one earlier it's like the excitement deflates at about the 65th minute or so. The three games were similar in that they were close and it became a case of the leading team happy to play endless hand passes (mostly) without trying to add to their tally and unless they make an error and lose possession the opposition can do feck all about it. If the team losing does get possession then they have to engineer a scoring chance against a blanket defence and a rapidly approaching hooter. I can't remember the reasoning for changing it but based on these three finals the hooter rule last year was better.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,742 ✭✭✭✭gormdubhgorm

Jayus that is a good question. I assume the ref gets the final say?
