Mary’s comfortably beat UCD at home this weekend and remain top. Clontarf pick up 5 points in a high scoring game. 54-51 they beat Old Belvedere. Lansdowne win again.
Casper Gabriel played 12 for Terenure this weekend in their close game vs Nenagh. Hinch beat Cork Con. UCD nailed on in that 9th place play off spot. They will have their Irish 20s contingent back for those games.

Instonians beat Wesley in Wesley. Wesley still remain top of 1B. Naas beat Highfield and Blackrock throw away a 23 point lead to lose in Garryowen. Queens will be playing in 2A next year. Blackrock, UCC, and Naas look like the 3 teams fighting to avoid 9th.

Barnhall continue to dominate 2A. A league they won’t be in next year. Dungannon, Wanderers & Shannon likely to make up the rest of the Top 4.

Galweigans will be playing their rugby in 2A next year. I presume they will become Connachts new feeder. They have several Y1 academy players playing week in week out. Notable players - Albert Linder, Matthew Victory, Luke Murtagh, Eanna McCarthy and David Walsh. You’d almost say if those Leinster lads stayed in Dublin they would be playing their rugby in 1A?

I would say Corinthians will have a big say about Galwegians being main feeder for Connacht next year; the academy guys will be spread between both galway clubs and occasional one in Buccs in 2B. the leinster guys who moved to Connacht academy would likely be playing 1A or 1B if theyd stayed in Dublin but i think Connacht are right to have as many of their players affiliated to their own clubs as possible.

From speaking to people at game. Gabriel was ok. not a real stand out in the game against Nenagh,

Congrats to Barnhall and Galwegians, if any of their fans post here. Very impressive to be unbeaten and league wrapped up early. Hope they enjoy the celebrations.

saw the nure lansdowne game albeit on the stream not at it in lakelands….. one of the players got a huge hit on casper in the 1st half felt for the rest of the game he couldnt shake it off bar a brilliant break down the wing in the early stages of the 2nd half. hes a quality player but felt that he wasnt up to usual standards yesterday and one stage slotted into 15 and moved egan to 10. on form lansdowne probably full credit for the win better team on the day nures phase play just never struck i felt. belvo with a good win yesterday. 1b interesting enough wesley just about holding on by a point with 2 more games to go can the students catch them?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19 Chirpo123

I would expect Enniskillen to beat Creggs comfortably - their form since Christmas has been scintillating - putting up 50 in 5 of their 7 league games.

Kilfeacle and Boyne should be a bit tighter but i'd expect either of them to lose to Enniskillen in the final.

Big win for Harlequins at the weekend means it's a straight shootout between them an Midleton for the relegation playoff with Malahide, despite some valiant performances recently, gone.

UCD with a fine win vs Hinch. Mary’s unlucky vs Belvo. Not our best performance.
Clontarf have a home semi locked in with 2 games to spare. 1 point from the next 2 games should see Mary’s lock in theirs.
Lansdowne get a win in Lakeland’s and move to 3rd. Fassbender getting top 4 and still getting the marching orders is very Lansdowne.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 5,320 Mod ✭✭✭✭Lost Ormond

Wouldnt be so sure on Enniskillen winning comfortably but yeah theyll definitely be favourites for semi. Kilfeacle have been in fairly good form themselves. Kilfeacle have been stand out team in Munster and known for a while they would be in round robin. Boyne have had a bit of a longer title challenge from Suttonians. So yeah much harder to call that semi

Was at Belvo Mary’s myself and thought Belvo were full value for the win. Seemed to have a lot of the possession but found it tough to break down Mary’s.

Thought Mary’s looked the better team when they got going and their defence was very strong, but didn’t seem to get their attack flowing until the last 10 minutes.

From a Belvo perspective both centres were good and Ericson was excellent. Meredith good also, particularly when he moved to 15.

Good form at home all season only losing to Tarf and Lansdowne but only beating UCD and Nenagh away. 1 more away win with a couple of bonus points and they would be in the picture for a playoff spot.

Really positive season all in all.

Assuming they avoid each other in the Semis I think it will be a Mary’s Clontarf final.

Both unbeaten teams lost their records...Barnhall beaten by Cashel who put in a cracking performance in 2A and Galwegians hammered by Clogher Valley in a big 2B surprise

Both teams well promoted and have won leagues at this stage so maybe not a surprise

    Agree with most of this.

Marys are an incredible side and Belvo needed to do everything right to get the better of them.

An unusually poor day for Dean whose the standout 10 in the league.

On the centres point - Beckett is at the core of everything Belvo do well. He's unplayably good at times. Got us constant front foot ball and had a brilliantly read intercept for his score.

Belvos setpiece was near faultless which was their demise in the away fixture.

Amazingly Belvo are still mathematically in the race for the semis even though results would need to go their way. Hinch away this weekend a big one. Need a tbp to be in the fight still.

But if you offered them a fight for top 4 given how sluggish the season started for them and the fact they're recently promoted I'm sure they'd have taken it.

A big unturn in form coincided with Hugh O'Sullivan joining mid season unsurprisingly

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,226 ✭✭✭bingobango12

I think with Nure and Cork Con playing each other this weekend it means Belvo won’t be able to get top 4? Unless I’m reading the table wrong as winner of that will get above 50 points.

Agree on the set piece. I thought the lineouts were too complicated at the start with the amount of movement going on but they kept hitting the right man so worked out well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,075 ✭✭✭arsebiscuits1

Oh you're right. I missed that they were playing each other.

I guess in theory they could draw this weekend and lose their last fixture and OB could run up a cricket score in their last 2 games.

    Mathematically possible but incredibly unlikely!

Mary’s face Cookies at home tomorrow’s Mary’s home semi is 2 points away, Young Munster don’t have much to play for you’d think? The game of the week is Terenure vs Con. You’d have to think that this game is a top 4 decider. Lansdowne play Clontarf. Clontarf have their home semi final nailed on and Lansdowne are desperate to win to confirm top 4. Prediction. Mary’s / Terenure / Lansdowne

Wesley play Naas this weekend in 1B, Naas really struggling this year. Wesley should win that and maybe win the league if results go their way?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 375 ✭✭luke9311

wes up north next week in armagh they have nothing to play for really being mid table but wondering last game of season and last home game for them and all that would it be a motivator for them to upset their party 🧐.?.

similar point for the trinity rock game i wonder.

1a top 4 more or less as is id say con outside chane really next week getting nure spot but cant see nure lose at home to ucd unless its a full strength side with their academies and irish u20 lads named in it for last game of regular season for them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,075 ✭✭✭arsebiscuits1

Some interesting fixtures ahead of the final regular round.

In 1A Marys are safe for a home semi despite 2 losses on the bounce. Unless they're badly beaten by Tarf and Lansdowne put a serious score on Con then Lansdowne could sneak a home semi on points difference. Very unlikely.

Con need a tbp from their game with Lansdowne and Terenure to get nothing from their game against UCD to get a semi final spot. Unlikely also. UCD a very porous side so at the very least Terenure would be looking at a 4 try bonus point.

All odds looking like 4 Dublin clubs in the semis.

1B is shaping up for a Box office finish for the automatic promotion spot.

Wesley are away to Armagh while Trinity are away to Rock. Both would be tipped to win.

Wesley are on top by a point and a very marginal points difference. Could come down to try bonus points.

Given UCD are in the relegation playoff I don't see them going down. Leinster will ensure they're sufficiently resourced.

It could well be a colours playoff between Trinity and UCD. What a fixture that would be!

Inst and Garryowen will want their say as well as they round off the playoff spots

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 375 ✭✭luke9311

was wondering that myself on lansdownes situation on getting home semi mathematically but wasnt sure on the points difference scored and against

Marys PD is +200 to Lansdownes +123

So Marys would need to lose by 35+ and Lansdowne would need to win by 35+ or varying combinations of those scores for a home semi.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 375 ✭✭luke9311

bit of a big ask so then! then again thing belvo were in a simular boat last yeah in order for them to go up and it worked out in their favour so never know

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32 RugbyAcount222

Big weekend for Mary’s away to Clontarf. Can finish the regular season in first, wonder how much the mental games come through in these sort of game!

Wesley only need to win to claim 1B

They have won 2 out of their last 5. Away to Armagh who have nothing to play for. Wesley apparently doing a documentary on their year.

Barnhall will be presented their trophy at home this weekend. A win for Sean Skehan’s Wanderers this weekend will confirm them in the top 4.

    Exciting weekend.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32 RugbyAcount222

is Sean Skehan the head coach or just assistant actually?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,075 ✭✭✭arsebiscuits1

A win doesn't guarantee Wesley top spot as I understand it (however it's extremely likely)

Trinity are only 1 point behind and -10 pd behind them

A win for Trinity with a TBP and good points differential and a win for Wesley without a TBP would see Trinity sneak the top spot

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32 RugbyAcount222

Blackrock looking strong with Moloney, Coffee, Deegan, Mangan & Mullen all available. Armagh dead and buried with absolutely nothing to play for. Wesley will be very comfortable you’d imagine.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,670 ✭✭✭FtD v2

Jack Deegan has looked great for Blackrock the last couple of weekends, scoring tries in both performances. He was unfortunate to miss the U20 6 Nations, and Rob Carney was superb IMO in that tournament, but have to figure Deegan will come right back into the mix for the U20 RWC.

Same in the 12 shirt if Sean Walsh is healthy, even though James O'Leary was superb in the U20 6 Nations.

Final roundof regularseason tomrrow. Still fair bit to be decided across the divisions. Wont get to a game unfortunately.

What is the feeling down in Nenagh after their first season in 1A? Great achievement getting up to 1A in the first place.

Would have been nice to see them win a game or two.

Is it feasible to get up to 1A again but try and stay there or would it require a lot more investment?

was wondering this myself and wondering lost ormonds views on this. i know a lad in my club from that neck of the woods and we were just talking after watching the lad round of games reflecting on the season and i put it too him about nenagh he just said you simply cant compete in a gaa strong hold. Was interesting hear him say that i know limericks a hour or so drive away but still must be awkward to get to if ur a player in a limerick job clocking off at 5 or 6 trying to not get stuff in rush hour traffic. maybe his gaa comment has a point tho……. cookies did a ok this year despite that im surpised they didnt make top 4 personally given th amount of lbp and bps they picked up to keep them with range with a few rounds to go,….. but as a whole u have to wonder the limerick club scene as well when u include like of garryowen shannon etc etc who were mainly always 1a or 1b clubs for a good few years but with the hurling going well in the last few years plus jobs abroad and in the capital has it taken an affect?…..
