What kind of returns should you expect to receive from investing in an ETF? Is 30% a year reasonable?

Heck no, you should expect for any investment to be along the lines of 7 to 10% once averaged out over a decade in my view (keep in mind many investments have periods of going up significantly mixed with periods when it does not go up at all or go down). Anything higher and you're looking at significant risk and / or highly optimistic gambling as that's what you'd expect an generic global index would deliver. Yes; some may deliver more over a shorter time period but to expect that to be consist is a fools game and consistently fail to keep on delivering.

If 30% a year was reasonable for etfs , then no one would invest in stocks
