Our house alarm rings continuously and only way to stop it is to remove a fuse, which deprives us of some lights in upstairs bedrooms.

Have tried the reset codes but to no avail.

Have tried ringing Dyno Locks (See screenshot attached) but they don’t seem to be

    in business anymore.

Can anyone advise or point me in the right direction to some company who can help?

Or does it simply require an electrician to reset the codes?

    Thanks,

    Jos

They were \ are very common alarm systems 10+ years ago. When we had one in our last house, we just got a local alarm guy to service it and replace the battery (usually in a white box in another room) and then test all the sensors. You can reset the codes yourself.

We got a Ring alarm system, self installed it. The only thing to drill was the actual keypad by the door, but you don’t even have to do that can just pace it anywhere you want.

It worked out €50 cheaper than getting someone out to try and fix the old alarm system.

I do get that some people aren’t comfortable working with electrics and removing/sealing off old wiring. If you’re not ok with that then I’d consult an electrician.

You say the onky way to stop it is to remove a fuse. Maybe its time to move into the 21st century and away from that 20 century old tech and get the board upgraded. That way you could get an electrician to upgrade your board to a much more modern and safer board and get your alarm system sorted too. It would mean the house being a lot safer for you too.

Yes it would cost a bit but so worth it. I have an MCB board in my house but all the sockets are on an RCD. Who ever thought that was a good idea lol? I want to and will upgrade to RCBOs as soon as I can afford it. That way each socket circuit has its own individual protection for the cables and for people.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

Do people think that alarms are actually effective?

it looks to be a std hkc alarm with the other branding stuck on, any alarm installer should be able to sort it out for you.

Not really at all in my opinion. My partner wanted one and if it helps her to feel safe when I’m away I’m happy to have it there.

Very much a placebo for many. Although when ours goes off it sounds like Armageddon, can’t imagine any burglar is staying around after that.

A dog that barks may be more effective in my view.

Was the local alarm guy in Dublin, Lucan or nearby.

Is there a list of Alarm Installers that I can check out in Dublin.

Google, or ring Mercury in Ballymount or Wesco and ask for an installer in or around Lucan(I presume). It sounds like it just needs a battery (Less than €40) but a full service with password resets is not a bad idea.

Yes, but you do not need to clean, feed, walk and cleanup after an alarm.

    😉.

OP, check if there is a fused spur feeding the alarm. This would allow you to isolate it.

This post should really be in Home Security Systems forum.

No. Four recent burglaries in our area and one of them was at a house with full alarm and CCTV. First thing they did was smash the alarm box and the CCTV showed they wore masks and gloves and were in and out in 11 minutes.

Wake me up when it's all over.

Sounds like the alarm panel or backup battery is failing.

Try disconnecting the backup battery in the alarm panel (not just the fuse) or power it down fully, otherwise you’ll likely need an alarm tech to reset or replace the unit.
