It still exists in major European markets such as Germany, France, Italy and Spain that would dwarf the Irish market.

Selling weekend John Higgins v Ronnie tickets, even at exorbitant prices, doesn't necessarily prove that there is a Tuesday afternoon market for Jak Jones v Chris Wakelin followed by David Gilbert v Elliot Slessor which are the sort of fixtures that make-up the majority of what you'd be selling.
And bear in mind the punters would be buying blind without knowing the actual fixtures until a few days beforehand.
Having said that the prices/quickness of sale for the John Virgo Trophy has probably not gone unnoticed.
