Dodgy insurance on www.tyreleader.ie

    I purchased tyres on this online shop. They offered insurance stating "flat tyre = replaced tyre for a year", and "a punctured tyre = a replaced tyre".

    Well, far from the truth. Surely enough I was unfortunate enough to get a puncture 2 months in, contacted them, and after providing photo and video proof… "your puncture is reparable, go to a garage and we'll cover the cost".

    Provided screen captures, emails, and a PDF with their "tyre warranty plus" in which there is no such a caveat to their warranty policy, to no avail. Meanwhile, customer service delaying their responses (one per 24 hour period), and just being generaly nasty to deal with.

    Save yourselves 4 quid per tyre and do not purchase their "insurance". You've been warned.

    That's interesting, I took this out on recent motorcycle tyres. I read the small print and dint remember reading anything about "get it fixed and we will pay"

    Because paying 4€ insurance to cover a potential 15€ repair is absolutely ridiculous.

    I bought 4 tyres from tyreleader a few weeks ago and declined the option, there'd be too many angles to get out of paying out with third party fitting and all that.

    Bit of a mixed experience from these guys.

    Both 8 tyres of them last year.

    Bought insurance for all.

    First tyre had a puncture. Was told go to get it repaired and they will pay. I did that. But then foolishly realized it should actually be a replacement tyre. Asked them about it and was told to F off basically.

    Few months later another flat. But this time they said I can get a free tyre. Happy days.

    Few months later again and another flat. But this time they outright refused the warranty. Multiple emails over the course of weeks but they would never tell me why it was refused. Guy that was replying to my mail had pretty poor English.

    Seems it depends if the guy handling your case had someone p**s In his cornflakes in the morning or not!

    I buy tyres for 3 cars and a few trailers off tyreleader.

    I find them the best value for tyres over the other sites.

    I have my own tyrechanger so fit my own .if i get a puncture fix it myself.

    So never got the insurance off them. If you had expensive tyres and they honoured it . It could be worth it .

    Especially if you were doing high mileage. Ie replacing tyres every year

    Nobody is going to replace a tyre if a puncture is repairable. Imagine AXA giving out new cars every time the Mrs drags the side of the car off the garden fence

    It's designed for blow outs, pothole damage and Sidewall damage along with vandalism. Most main dealers offering this for free nowadays and only happy to help with claims when needed. Having said that, if you're buying from tyreleader then you're probably looking for a set of DitchFinders and you won't get them at the dealership.

    Firstly, their insurance claim is precisely that which you claim it is not, ie. "punctured tyre = replaced tyre". Secondly, they explicitly exclude vandalism in their cover.

    To be honest one of the reasons i buy from tyreleader is you csn get decent value on good branded tyres.

    An example her car is on 205 50 17 runflats. A while back they had goodyear eagle ls2 on offer for 73 a piece.

    Ii figured out a long time back that it was cheaper to buy and fit a quality brand than to go to a tyre centre and get cheap tyres fitted.

    The bs of of these are made in the same factory as michelans or pirellis trying to hype you up on cheap tyres.

    Then they have a 20 percent markup on the tyres and 15 to 20 for fitting them.

    I will admit that i have put cheap tyres on trailers. A lot of people will put part worns on trailers. I prefer new.

    Same here, I got a set of same Pirellis that were on my car rolling off the production line from Tyreleader. Fitting, balancing and disposal were done by a tyre guy I've used several times over the last decade when I've sourced tyres myself.

    I got a quote close to 50% more expensive from one of the tyre places who have an advertising budget.

    People who rock up to a tyre center having done no research are far more likely to be driving on ditchfinders than people who source their own tyres online.

    Most significantly it only covers failures arising from within the tyre itself, all external causes are excluded. So a nail in a tyre isn’t covered as per those terms.

    Doesn’t seem to be much good.

    Good grief, it is like they deliberately went out of their way to find and use a word that most people would not know, in order to put it into the warranty terms. I consider myself quite well up on my "words" but I actually had to refer to a dictionary for that one!

    So, essentially the warranty only covers defects internal to the tyre and nothing else, in other words, cover is only for a faulty tyre. If you get a puncture due to a nail or any foreign body ENTERING the tyre, it is not covered.

    I don't see anything in this warranty that is over and above your statutory rights as a consumer anyway. Seems like a waste of money to me.

    The problem is if there is a manufacturing defect, they should be covered regardless

    Its a Warranty, not insurance, if it was the latter you'd have a lot more rights…

    Same as all the add ons you'll be sold in most shops and websites nowadays, €5 for replacement cover for a €20 kettle or shoe protection for €10 etc - the companies turn over more profit on these upsells than they do from the products.

    Do the math's, carry the risk and decline!

    Exactly my point. Why spend more to get what you are legally entitled to anyway? Seems better to keep your €4 per tyre and take the chance on getting a puncture (which this "warranty" would not cover).

    So people take out this utterly unrequired warranty, pay a high fee relevant to what it is worth, they then don't read or understand parts of the exclusions (dreadfully easy to google any phrases you don't understand) and then complain because the quite short terms and conditions excludes issues caused by external factors (such as driving over a nail) and they are trying to claim on something that is not claimable on.

    If anyone thinks a company is going to send a replacement tyre if you get a bog standard puncture, you really are being ridiculous. It makes NO SENSE whatsoever.

    Simply don't buy any of these extended warranties - they are simply profit drivers for the relevant companies. EG Currys, DFS, Harvey Norman etc etc

    More importantly it looks like tyreleader are a dodgy crowd to deal with, so I would not trust them for tyres when there are so many other options. If your tyre does not turn up or is wrong size roll they also try wriggle out in terms and conditions.
