I’d probably go along with that… not much between Richie Reid and K Doyle , both good on distribution and both could be better defensively but Reid probably edges it on experience . You do know you’ll be lashed out of it for putting both R Reid and Deegan in the team though don’t you? 🙈

Am I reading it wrong? He didn't put either of them in the team, only on his bench?

My team (but doubt it will be)

    1.Eoin Murphy .2 Mike Butler.3. Blanch.

    4.rory garrets.5mikey Carey 6.Darragh.

    7.Richie.8 Cian Kenny.9 Jordan molly

    10..Adrian 11.Eoin cody 12.Tom phelan

    13..Liam Moore 14.TJ.15.Mossy

Blanch at full back to counter the likes of Rabbite and Hetherton and the likes of Hayes further down the line.

Tallis has done well and close call sticking with Murphy. But if we're only going to puck it 10 yds I would stick with Murphy.

No worries, funny thing is I would actually argue any team without deegan in it isn't realistic, pretty sure he's started every match of the league, whether people like it or not he will be in the championship fifteen. And especially having had a good run the last day in yet another position. Only thing is the tipp full forward line is a lot slower than the cork or limerick ones, think he (and our team as a whole actually) is better suited to playing tipp than the others.

I’d agree with all of that Realt and regular posters on here will know I’ve defended Paddy many times on here before. I’ve always maintained that it’s up to the younger players to put their hands up and make it difficult for management to leave them out.

Paddy is an absolute gentleman and while I realise he might not be the most polished hurler on the Kilkenny panel ( and has made his mistakes), what he brings to the team is just as valuable. His work rate is relentless and as you said he has played everywhere without complaint , he never shies away from anything that’s asked of him…. no fuss no ego . That kind of attitude and commitment can’t be coached, it’s either in you or it’s not. Anyone who thinks those qualities don’t make a difference when it matters most knows nothing about the game.

No successful team ever had fifteen lovely stick men starting for them anyway and when Derek Lyng has twenty six lads who are not just better hurlers but are willing to give him what Paddy gives every time he proudly pulls the black and amber jersey over his head, it’ll be time for him to step down. Until then all the lads giving out about him ( some who probably never stood under a high ball in their lives) who although are entitled to their opinions should maybe stop and think before posting certain comments on a public forum.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s perfectly okay to say he wouldn’t start on their team but as I said earlier some of the stuff said not just here but elsewhere too has been over the top.

I don't think Blanch is a good enough defender to have that close to goal to be honest. I think it's a problem with a lot of our players. Galway and Tipp found it very easy at time to break tackles and create overlaps. Defending starts at no 15 and so far we've been lacking in intensity when defending.

I think it's time for change at No 1. Tallis was super the last day and will only get better with experience.

For all his faults I'd like to see more of Deegan at 3. Call me mad but he might do ok there.

    Tallis

    Butler

    Deegan

    Garrett/Bolger

    Blanch/Doyle

    Corcoran

    Carey

    Kenny

    Molloy

    Moore

    Well said

If there’s a ball dropping into the square in the last minute of a game p deegan is the man I’d back to come out with it 9 times out of 10

Some of what a player brings to a team cannot be measured but you d rather have them on your side than against you

we were banking on him to come out with the ball against Tipp at the end of the game, remind me of what happened again?

last years all Ireland semi final that is.

Good man marooned, I was wondering who would be first in with the easy cheap shot. You must never have made a mistake in your life. Everyone makes mistakes , thats sport. You’re talking about one moment in a high pressure All-Ireland semifinal like it defines the man. That could have happened to anyone and has happened to plenty of the best in the game. All the hurlers on the ditch never lost a ball, you will never get turned over up in the Hogan stand.

And if you’re as big a supporter as you say , going to all the games and backing the team then you should know better than to dish out the keyboard warrior treatment. Do you honestly think that Paddy himself doesn’t know he got turned over at a crucial moment in the game? Do you think he hasn’t replayed that moment in his head a hundred times? That’s the nature of elite sport , players carry those moments with them far more than any supporter ever will . You come across as a nice guy…..a good poster on here and obviously a good club man and a loyal Kilkenny supporter so I’m surprised at you to be honest.

As you know Charlie I seldom if ever name players but when they keep insisting on naming these lads it does get frustrating imo I would rather they pick someone else. It seems you want to pick people on personality if that’s the case I’d suggest you would become a judge on the Rose of Tralee you are wasted here.

No need for the smart reply, if you can’t back up your point without getting personal it says a bit about you. I’ve said plenty of times I have no problem with anyone who says they wouldn’t have Deegan in their team but no need for the treatment he gets on various platforms from do called Kilkenny supporters.

You’re probably right, about my feelings on these matters though and when you know some of these lads personally and know what they give for the cause it’s hard to read some of the opinions on here and maybe I overreact so I think I’ll leave it to you and give this forum a break for a while .

It's amazing how many lads are saying he should have just drove that ball down to the square. The same lads who for years said we were too predictable and needed to work the ball out through the lines more.

Look Deegan is a good trier but are we reduced to lads that are constantly exposed on big days but try hard ? This is not a club team, surely better options out there, i do not want to list them but he has had some rough days out in championship. We have no All Ireland in 11 years.

Again…. (how many times do I need to say it) my point had absolutely nothing to do with Paddy being picked on the team or not. It was about having a bit of respect for him and all of our players.

That's surprising. Any details of team or score?

I think Deegan is a valuable team player. He gives 100% and 9 out of 10 games is solid. He just gets caught that1 time in 10 and its usually on a big day. IMO for KK to progress we need players to come in and relegate Paddy to the bench. If we have players that can do that we are on the way up as Paddy is a solid benchmark for management to judge the younger players.

    I think that's a pretty fair assessment.

I'd also say that it's not great to dismiss personality as irrelevant: personality is a crucial element in what makes a player. I've played alongside a wide range of types of lads and while you don't have to like everyone you play with, deegan strikes me as a guy who you would go into battle for, and you know he would as well.
